He won't have to worry about overheads such as paying highly qualified reviewers...... he already has staff so he can redirect a few of them into marketing and site maintenance. The bigger question is: will he undercut the others to gain new business?  Will that drive prices down?

have you seen his website? his pricing is 2x the regular exclusive file or a photo+ at iStock
nope, hadn't bother to search yet, is it the peopleimages.com site?
there's only 70,000 which is an impressive portfolio for him, but I did a search based on one of my best sellers...didn't find anything similar. I'm sure we all could do that. I can't see him withdrawing from the big agencies yet.

If it does take off, then his rank is likely to drop on the sites and so will his search rank on the agencies. I think this a potential downfall. Especially there are so many professionals out there now

I must say, the more I look at this new site, the more impressed I am. For a new site, the attention to detail and the level of finish is remarkable.

Thank you! You will not believe all the small things I have been optimizing before launch. Re-keyworded about 30000+ images, re-titled about the same. Organized 1300 shoots, 700 models...Auto-suggestions based on beta-testers, manually input keyword suggestions for about 3000 top searches, color corrected about 10000 files. Re-developed old shoots so they would look better.
Our current ticket tracker system reads 3500 in issue number, which means that to get the site to where it is now we have fixed or added 3500 bugs or features.
For the critical comments: Remember that this is a version 1.0 - it still introduces two new inventions that no other site has: Time-exclusivity and custom retouching. And both features work, at launch!
Imagine what version 2.0 will look like, with SEO, referral and social media integration. 100000+ images!
Keep in mind the bigger picture. That's what I always do. :)

Best Regards Yuri Arcurs

Lot's of interest that is for sure. We just had over 1000 visitors in one hour and about 200+ visitors constantly on the site. Small numbers for big stock agencies, but it's still pretty nice. :)

Dreamstime has time exclusivity.  So do any RM sites, and at the prices for time exclusivity, you're actually at comparable to RM.

I haven't found yet - is it fake exclusivity like DT, or is it only on images with zero sales?

It is a huge task to put something like a stock site together.  It takes great management skills, so congrats on that.

I think it could be "fake exclusivity" for example,
http://peopleimages.com/image/a-casual-business-meeting-on-the-go-people-working-united# one of Yuri's most popular on SS http://www.shutterstock.com/gallery-2700p1.html#id=7704406
Is offered with a 99% buyout license: http://peopleimages.com/support/licenseAgreement/3

"With this Agreement we promise to remove the selected Media from peopleimages.com as well as all other major online stock agencies! This license type illustrates our efforts to eliminate all future sales on a particular image that you want for yourself. This is a costly and time-consuming procedure for us, but it will give you want - an image for yourself!" and for all the other people who have already purchased it!

It could be good to be a bit more explicit in the licence terms about the fact that previous buyers could still be using the image (an in the case of Yuri's most popular images no doubt will be). I think that failing to mention it kinda implies and end to future usage, not just sales. This is why I have never allowed the sale of any of my images with DT's fake exclusivity. It's just a matter of time before someone is taken to court over it.

That wording is a bit iffy, let alone the spurious nature of the "exclusivity". All other MAJOR stock agencies? What about the minor ones? Is it that some places aren't willing or able to pull images whenever Yuri asks them to?

that might be a smaller problem, I believe the tons of agencies partners would be a lot harder, 5 working days.. if all agencies work as good as IS on the thinkstock migration I believe it will take more like 500 days  :D

And Yuri will be on TS, of course. TS is a pretty major agency.

Very nice site, Yuri - very fast, clean, easy to navigate. Would you share your plans for advertising? Bringing buyers to the site may not be easy - even with excellent and big image collection like yours. You will have a lot of people checking out your site initially but it's a different task to convince them to bring you their money. I do wish you a lot of success with your site - please keep up posted on the progress!

Finally, by redisintermediating, Yuri is regaining the most valuable part of the stock photography business:  the customer relationships.  Hes already been hard at work doing this, with 2,000 active photo buyers already in his records (50 have been beta-testing the site, buying 10 30 per day).  Now he has a substantially more lucrative destination to direct his promotional resources and leverage the fame hes built as the worlds top selling stock photographer.

^^^ He's doing what? 'Redisintermediating'? That's not a even a word. Yuri might be disintermediating, or cutting out the middle-man in more common parlance, but you can't re- that unless he was doing it twice over which doesn't seem possible.

My prediction seems to be true, he teach his own photographer army who shoot for him. High-quality images will be available for customers at a good rate. He is a very wise man :)

Really impressive looking website, and seems to be very functional.  Great attention to detail.  I am impressed with your reworking of titles to be so descriptive.  Obviously a lot of work went into this.  Wishing you great success! Congratulations!  :)

I love how big the previews are!   You can finally see the detail in what you are buying.   You can fill your screen.   He's raising the bar for the other stock sites.

I haven't yet been able to figure out why we'd wish him success (sorry :) ). Any gain that the site makes is 'our' loss.  Are we hoping he will cause our agents to up their game?   I certainly don't want to lose any buyers.

I think most of us (including you!) consider that agencies take far too much in commission and therefore we would hope for a fairer distribution of our images' earnings. If Yuri is successful in this venture then it may represent one small step in the right direction. Personally I don't compete with Yuri's subjects so I'm not worried about any increased competition or loss of buyers.
