Hi.

Since 4k has been around for a few years now, is producing Full HD 1080p footage still worth? Will the AI tools mean that these resolutions will still be useful to be used on 4k due to the chance of higher quality upscaling and editing?

Unfortunately video has always been an after-thought to me despite ok sales and since I don't have 4k equipment I was wondering if at this time it wouldn't be a waste of time.

strange to say but I think so,the HD format sells better than a format that is not standard 4K.

in short,the formats that sell the most are in my opinion 4096x2160 and 1920x1080

but I only have a few hundred videos,someone who has more experience than me in videos will be able to confirm or deny this.

I am still selling hd only. So before you don't upload, I would capture content and upload with hd.

I have more than 15k video on portfolio, unfortunatly on shutterstock is complicated to have the detail of the resolution but on pond5 it's possible so

here my resolution sells in 2022:

4096x2160 : 28.6%
3840x2160 : 5.3%
2048x1080 : 50.61%
1920x1080: 15.1%
1280x720: 0.81%

and for 2023 (not finish):

4096x2160 : 19.2%
3840x2160 : 4.5%
2048x1080 : 46.7%
1920x1080: 27.9%
1280x720: 1.5%

so it looks like we sell more HD now

While I don't have any hard numbers (btw frank how do you see those stats in pond?) - my 'feeling' based on what I've seen is yes, HD is very much in demand.
4K has been pushed the last few years - but I don't believe many consumers really "use" that...

It doesn't matter, it's not HD or 4K. It’s strange that buyers need this format.
Are you specifically exporting videos to this format? Does your camera shoot in this format?

I upload two kind of footage 4096x2160 and 3840x2160, I think 2048x1080 is the converted version in hd of the 4096x2160

Probably I'm going to say what we all already know...

Content is king regardless of the format or type of capture and in many cases even with technical errors and without a tripod it sells better than other more perfect "candy" ones.

I have nearly 30K of footage and 2D/3D animation clips involving a range of formats from HD to 16K.

Close to 95% sales is HD, the rest distributed across the remaining formats. For me, I don't think it's even worth uploading 4K anymore or at least in next few years, something I've been thinking about abandoning because it takes up a lot of space on my hard drives (more than 40TB) between renders and raw files.

Also definitely thinking of abandoning timelapses. Although i sell some it simply does not pay me the costs.
I rather press button for "real time" footage, edit a little and preferably upload HD. Maybe leave a note in the clip description that I have other resolutions and get in touch if there is interest.

The vast majority of my video sales are HD. In fact, Ive never sold any 4k videos at 4k prices. I did sell 2 or 3 4k videos through Adobe Stock but I only got about $5 each for them.

Out of curiosity, is there much demand for 4096 x 2304 footage? I don't suppose anyone has sold any 4096 x 2304 clips?

I sold just one. last year.
Getting a feeling that clients will upscale video with ai tools if they need.
