Title: curious about footage sales
Post by: ason on February 04, 2009, 06:30
I'm so curious about footage sales, is it worth the time of work?
Maybe a stupid question but do you folks sell any footage. I did some research but it didn't get me any wise

I'm planing to buy a canon HV30, is it possible to ever get some dollar back for that investment?

thanks/lena

edit: changed subject to give more info on what the thread was about.

I am just starting out and have an average of about 20 clips on 4 sites.  Sold 3 so far in about 4 months but they all made at least $12.  I don't think there are the quantity of sales that there are with stills but the extra made per sale is nice.  Should be possible to make some good money but it does take more time than stills and the files are huge to upload, sometimes 500mb.

I have 10 or so files.. no sales yet :(  My videos are primarily nature though, so perhaps not too useful.

Sound doesn't seem to change the file size too much.  It is similar to stills, the more texture and color, the larger the file, a white background produces a smaller file.

i have 200 clips online in istock. Those are mostly animations and i have worked on this collection about 1,5 years. About sales i am quite optimistic - december was BME with 90 sales. January was quite close too.

Definitely worth of trying!

But wow... its so much new to learn, everything is suddenly moving ;)
Tomorrow I gonna do some clips and try to get them to SS etc.

Do any of you send some footage to Fotolia?

I have tried uploading to fotolia with FTP a few times but after an hour upload, they never appear on the site.  SS have review problems, some reviewers accept everything and others reject 90% of my uploads.  istock are good but it can take weeks to get a review.  I would try Pond5 to start with, they have fast reviews and low rejections.

They also have a referral program, here's my link :)
