Five months from now they'll have a reason to lower the 1080p to $29.
They won't be happy 'till all clips are $5

On a site like Dissolve's it further penalizes those contributors who haven't placed their clips with a lower priced site. If I'm a good boy, my clips will remain for sale at $80 right next to the clips selling for $49 ??

That sure makes me feel special. Every time they make a move it looks worse. Whack-a-Mole strategy.

Exactly.
Which makes the RM prices there (150+ if i recall) look even more out of place not to mention the huge elephant in the roomthat is the exclusivity pricing.299 for HD and 499 for 4K!
I wonder really,if they price exclusive clips that ridiculously high why all this rush to price everything else at 49 not to mention 79?
Do exclusive clips even make sales there, that is one of the questions i would really like to be answered at some point.
Because if they do i cant even describe the massive surrealism.

Good point, I hadn't even considered that! In addition, they're heading towards the customer confusing iStock strategy of pricing a potentially lower quality clip at a higher price and the customer can't understand why clips are priced as they are. No agency in their right mind should be following the iStock model. The Whack-a-Mole strategy comment was right on the money ;D

Don't be surprised at the iStock comparison.
Dissolve was created by some of the founders of Veer and iStock.

Just had 430 new clips of mine reviewed and only 21 at 49 the rest at 79 (the 21 are lower res so understand the 49)

So so far I am happy now waiting for the sales :)

Without any video clips, stock video agency can't exist.  It was a stupid move by them to threaten contributors like they did.

Dissolve's directors will have their usual pay raise and bonus.
Contibutors have had their usual punitive paycut.

They could easily have lowered their prices and given the contibutors an extra 10% (that would still be lower than P5).
Their's something wrong somewhere.

Just received an email from Dissolve telling me they are lowering my clip prices next week to $49.

There were a couple of options. One is I can send them a list of all the clips in my collection that aren't available for $49 elsewhere (you gotta be kidding me, I'm not spending my time doing that) and they will only change those prices.

The second option is I can request for them to deactivate all my clips so they can be easily reactivated at a later date.

Interestingly enough, at the exact same time I got Dissolve's email I also got a notification of a sale from VideoBlocks. I profited over $47 dollars from the single clip sold at VB! With Dissolve's new pricing I would have received just $14.70

It seems pretty clear to me who I would rather support.

Update:

In the end I chose to ask Dissolve to deactivate my 2,000 clips. This is a slippery slope with nowhere to go but down. I'm tired of this nonsense from many of the agencies. An agency that's trying to control how and where I submit my clips to other agencies and one who's immediate response to every challenge seems to be lowering prices is not for me and won't be good for my business or the industry long term.

So all my HD clips are now $49... Maybe I'll just quit them, not sure yet, this sucks.

I think you made a wise choice. Following this thread for a while now and good to see some action is being taken by contributors to punish unfair agencies.

If your 1080P HD clips are priced at $49 against your will, you should inform them that you want out ASAP.

If sales increase to offset this, then I don't care. Time will tell. I think sales won't increase but I can give them a few months.

Your clips are still at $79?

Sorry, but you have no pride in your work.  You are hurting fellow contributors as a whole.

Do the math. There is no way sales will increase enough to offset this cut.
Your royalties will just decrease.

You should also consider what this cut will do to the industry.

We cannot prevent this slide but we can slow it down.

While i understand that most people in this business are pragmatists -and understandably so- and they look at it strictly from a financial point of view there is a huge issue in this that i for example can not ignore.
Tell me sincerely that since 2-3 weeks ago people in this forum aren't afraid to post at the videoblocks thread in fear that dissolve may be monitoring, which is not unrealistic for them to be doing given the circumstances.
That pisses me the most, the boogeyman over my head indirectly censoring me in a way.
I have noticed of many people whose prices have recently slashed to 49 and the list is propably growing.

P.S Did anyone receive the weekly report from ds regarding port traffic?is it me or this thing makes little sense?

I'm unsure if VideoBlocks is a good guy. Only time will tell.

Dissolve is in a dive to the bottom but Artbeats just beat them to it:

I'm wandering what Dissolve's response will be to Artbeats new site.

That Artbeats site's content sucks.  A lot of garbages.

Weekly traffic report is nice to see but archaic. It would be just as easy to copy an email to the contributor every time a sale is made. They could put something catchy like You've Made a Sale in the subject line. Then reference to the clip and the amount sold for.  How many clips are in bins etc. is not that useful. I'm still hanging on at $79 so I'm still hanging on.

Agree, but it's not that it's just archaic and impractical, most notably it doesnt seem to be very reliable either. Some numbers are off which is unforgivable for a database and makes me think that this is a last minute patch-up kind of solution that they came up with just to appear more approachable and reasonable to some people who might be disappointed with them.

I dont think they even wanted to create a different contributor friendly model in the first place and not sure if we will ever see one.Not that it makes any difference at this point.Still hanging on at 79 myself but that doesnt really make me feel any better.Have been trying to figure out if there is really any serious No3 stock footage agency around but i just dont see it.
All i see is agencies that seem to arrive with a bang and slowly vanish or eventually pissing people off due to their policies (or lack thereof).

I'm pretty disappointed by the price drop and the manner in which they went about it.

Still have clips up there but I'm not sure why.  If they start selling really well at $49, then that probably means it's cannibalizing higher priced sales elsewhere.  If sales remain the same, well that's just less money for everyone.  Lose lose situation.

I had high hopes for dissolve as a new partner, oh well.
