I made in June 300$ in July 24$ and it looks that as for now august seems 0$ in sales at Dissolve doesn't seem strange to you? It really feels weird to me please what do you think?

Not for me, actually the numbers for this summer trimester are pretty much the same (not in numbers in downward trend) across all agencies including dissolve.
Very high in June (580) a little lower in July (400) and as far as i can tell from trying to figure out the report they sent, certainly so far less for August, butwithout knowing the first week and the last which is yet to come (week of 17-24 though was very bad according to the report but the previous one was good).
Same drop as in p5 and ss and my numbers are still quite decent there tbh.
Which pisses me even more now that i think about it.

Support the 'good' guys: Shutterstock and Pond5 !
Since SS owns BigStockPhoto and are the ones responsible for initiating their "as low as 33c per video" sub plans, I have to consider them as 'neutral' guys at best.

If your 1080P HD clips are priced at $49 against your will, you should inform them that you want out ASAP.

If sales increase to offset this, then I don't care. Time will tell. I think sales won't increase but I can give them a few months.

Your clips are still at $79?

Sorry, but you have no pride in your work.  You are hurting fellow contributors as a whole.

Lol what? You are the one promoting VB which sells for exactly the same price.

Dude, you don't get it.  Are you really a contributor?  How much money you make from VB's $49 sale vs Dissolve's $49 sale?  It's $47 to you from VB and $15 to you from Dissolve.  It's all about how much money we can make, not how much they sell for.

Alright I misunderstood you, I thought you were talking about pride and fellow contributors but it's actually just about how much money you can make. No shame in that, we all do this for the money or we'd be in the fine arts. $49 is not bad when you get almost 100%, but it's bad when you get 30%. Then there is a grey area, where one might consider to wait and see what happens. That's where I am.

I wonder, did you end your contract with Dissolve over this or haven't your files been lowered to $49? It's very easy to sit behind a keyboard judging people and encouraging them to ditch a source of income if it suits your personal agenda. You dodged this question before.

I just asked them to get me out.  Hopefully soon I'll be free.

You can have it for the six or so months they are in business.

And those guys will never be in the business because nobody will contribute if they make a new site either.

Just done a bit of Googling. Some of the people complaining here are selling footage for $50 and less on P5, sometimes a lot less.. Which there are of course free to do. But let's keep things in perspective and try not to overreact.
I hope this thing passes over and prices are restored back to $79. Be sure to complain to them directly.

I'm glad I found this thread. I was half-way through uploading a thousand clips to dissolve, but I think I'll hold off for a while. It's not the $49 price tag that bothers me, but the fact that they betrayed the contributors' trust by changing prices, and that there is nothing stopping them from lowering it further. Also, despite what the CEO may have said to someone in an email about deactivating clips, a contract with a "5-year lock" is terrifying to me.

On the plus side, I learned about Videoblocks' new marketplace and their 100% commissions, so I'll be uploading there instead!

Good move!!

Dissolve is a nightmare for contributors.  Those guys don't care about us.

Looks like competitive e-market decisions always go both ways.

Only hope for them as i see it, since they seem to insist on their current decisions, is to find willing people who are -for personal reasons- attracted to their aesthetic layout and general philosophy, perhaps they will be their last chance to contribute some high production value stock  that they will propably need desperately in a few months from now.

I personally never wanted my 15 minutes of fame there, only a somewhat stable business model to which i (and propably the majority of professional in this business) could rely on.
Now that it's gone, who knows what these invisible gods that guide your desisions the so-called "markets" that you so much rely on will do?

Just received an email from Dissolve telling me they are lowering my clip prices next week to $49.

There were a couple of options. One is I can send them a list of all the clips in my collection that aren't available for $49 elsewhere (you gotta be kidding me, I'm not spending my time doing that) and they will only change those prices.

The second option is I can request for them to deactivate all my clips so they can be easily reactivated at a later date.

Interestingly enough, at the exact same time I got Dissolve's email I also got a notification of a sale from VideoBlocks. I profited over $47 dollars from the single clip sold at VB! With Dissolve's new pricing I would have received just $14.70

It seems pretty clear to me who I would rather support.

Update:

In the end I chose to ask Dissolve to deactivate my 2,000 clips. This is a slippery slope with nowhere to go but down. I'm tired of this nonsense from many of the agencies. An agency that's trying to control how and where I submit my clips to other agencies and one who's immediate response to every challenge seems to be lowering prices is not for me and won't be good for my business or the industry long term.

I think you made a wise choice. Following this thread for a while now and good to see some action is being taken by contributors to punish unfair agencies.

I just felt that if I allowed my clips to sell at Dissolve for $49 and at a lousy royalty rate, how long can SS hold off before they are lowering their prices to compete? While I'm not fond of the $49 price, I applaud VideoBlocks for thinking outside the box and providing a model that is beneficial to contributors. They've come up with something that is a win for all parties.

Dissolve is just following in the footsteps of so many other agencies that completely fail when it comes to innovation that benefits both buyers and sellers as well as the agencies themselves. Ultimately this may doom them to failure.

I'm not sure what the solution is, but like so many of you, I am tired of giving the bulk of the sale to an entity that provides the front door for customers. I'm equally tired of listening to excuses as to why clips and images need to be priced as low as they are. Getting 100% of $49 is as bad as getting 30% of $79. Not like I don't take the money, I need it, but it doesn't mean either is a good deal. It's just as easy to change the $49 at VB to $29 or $19 or $9 as it was to change $79 to $49 at Dv. You have nothing to say about it that will make them understand.

That's why I've stayed away from VB.  If they become successful they force other sites to lower prices and then what happens if they decide to take 50% royalty or if they stop licensing videos and only promote their free offerings.  I'm going to say away and most likely this year go exclusively with Pond5, I've already stopped uploading at iStock and slowed down a lot at SS.  I'd move a lot faster if Pond5 would fix a few things but even if they don't I'd still rather support them than the other sites.

I hear you both. It's hard to know where to draw the line when the sand is always shifting. I'm just doing the best I can.

Pond5 is definitely my favorite as we're able to set fair prices and receive a fair royalty. Pond5, however, was once easily my best earner but it has fallen over the last year to #2 and sometimes even #3 on my monthly earnings hit parade.

I was wondering if there was any clarity on the pricing at dissolve. Now that I've lost an agency (Revostock) I was hoping to fill the gap with another but I am still confused about the pricing at Dissolve as I've done a quick search and can see clips for sale at $49 and $79.

Who exactly is pricing these clips, is it the contributor or do the staff evaluate the clip and price it accordingly?

Also, has anyone seen any increase in sales this year at Dissolve?

Thanks.

They match the prices for your clips with the lowest price your clips sell for elsewhere.
My clips are now at $49 because I sell at VB. Sales at Dissolve are actually pretty good for me, and increasing (since the price drop I make more), although my sales are increasing at Shutterstock and VB as well. P5 is doing really bad.

This is my biggest complaint about the move to equalize at the lowest price. Those who haven't uploaded to VB lose out to similar lower priced clips.

I got my account approved on Dissolve, but never got around to uploading.  Glad I didn't.  I just feel like they're slimy for doing things the way they did.

And now that I've got most of my portfolio on VideoBlocks, I'm enjoying steady sales there.

Most of my microstock friends have told me they will no longer upload new content to Dissolve, though most are making enough sales to not deactivate their portfolios.

It's the same with iStock, most people I know stopped uploading new content and when sales eventually dried up, they removed their portfolios.  Dissolve will likely suffer the same fate as most producers will stop submitting new content and eventually they'll pull their existing content leaving Dissolve an empty hulk.

Same here like dnavarrojr.
Got approved about a year ago but never uploaded anything. I know they have sales and I am loosing this money.
But there is something about dissolve I dont like.

I upload my videos pretty much to almost every site. It is only Istock that I closed my account with because I was so annoyed by them.

And somehow I dont want do upload to dissolve.

Avoid Dissolve like a plague.  Just try VideoBlocks and you probably will be happy.
