Thanks guys.Although, im not kidding myself, that was propably a lucky September streak.
Still there are sales to be made there and that's the good part.
Hope all the best for everyone uploading there. There's little time to still make decent money in stock so let's not waste it on crappy sites.

Having said that i will see how vb goes and adjust my strategy at the end of the year.
Haven't uploaded anything at ds since 1+1/2 months ago (and propably never will despite the -stil good- sales) and ss will be the next site where i will upload in moderation if this subs fest continues.
If vb keeps up of course.
If not, well, i'll move to the countryside and make my own soap or whatever. :P
I'll probably raise the ire of a few of you, but I have to ask, how is selling something for half the price at one site going to help maintain overall prices everywhere else. Even if you get your 100% of this much lesser amount, what is the long term effect on your livelihood? I'll tell you -- it will diminish it. But, as humanity is at a point where our general consensus is grab and run, it's no big surprise. It may be a different business model, but it's not a good one. At least not if you want to see overall prices maintained. There are two distinct facets: Your percentage, and the price of the final sale.

You are right but you dont take a few importand factors into account and pardon me if i will sound pretentious.

1)Technology makes everything cheaper, and work and wages less if not obsolete.Last 40 years are a great example of that with the last 7 in the west (combined with the end of creditory expansion) the best example.
2) People when given the freedom to price their work however orthological they might consider themselfes to be,still succumb to fear and greed and price even lower because that means that the sale will go to them more easily instead of someone else. And that's the truth. Not only in stock but in real working relationships. We undercut each other and ourselfes in the end, because that's embedded in the way we see the world.
3) I recognize the reality you are describing and because i live in it there are 2 ways for me.To become a lesser evil or to go live in the woods in my own terms.
4)I dont see anyone big agency dropping hd to 7usd because envato and others have been offering it for years it at that price.Prices dropped because they cant no longer be that high in a world that slowly devalues work and wages, and pardon me if i speak in political terms.

I have kept the vast majority of my prices high at p5 to give you one example, above the average. Most people sell 4k for 30-80usd there. That's a reality i cant avoid.I sold a few hours ago a 158usd 4K clip.Im sure that many people today sold a bunch of 79usd 4K files alone.
Remember that  a few months ago all the big agencies dropped 4K to 199.In a few months they will propably drop it even further.HD too along with everything else.Fotolia hasn't yet announced the price of the 4K but no surprises if it will be below 199.

So what do you propose? To live in my own autistic bubble where i keep prices high for myself because -and you will be right- it's philosophically sound? It is but i find no practicality in the real world and just like you im a child of my era.Plus what is the right price to not devalue our work?10 years ago we would all give a different answer to this question.

I won't deny that the discussion gets largely philosophical. And it becomes difficult to address your questions without looking at the trend in the world in general and any one person's expectations and needs. I do read a few of the forums and I can say with some certainty, that many complaints that are made, are the direct result of the actions of the person making the complaint. Having it both ways usually doesn't work out. Lying down to get run over because that's what everyone else is doing doesn't seem reasonable to me, even if they give you a cushy mat to lie on.

I like what I'm getting from VideoBlocks so far.   :)

It's possible that VideoBlocks become #1 earner sometime next year.

Power of 100% royalty commission is real!

by far the best for me -- Videoblocks are surprisingly surpassing well-established Shutterstock by lenghts. Could it be they are very successfully pitching our content to prospective buyers? SS aren't even producing ANY sales for me for some time no; that despite their "size" and general market "standing" and despite the additional little fact of me having more clips up there than on VB*); very strange.

Similar trend for me in stills, BTW, where the #4 and "lowest top-performer" DT are leading the bunch for me, again not by just a small margin. (Maybe it is just me, or the overall stats aren't that reliable. Anyway, strange again.)

And yes, the early-bird 100% payout on VB, even if limited in duration, is another feature I like -- very much :)

---

*) and in case anyone is wondering: no, I am not posting my stuff using that turn-off username of mine over there -- no worries here, so that can't be it either...

I hear you.My tactics are far from bending over,i believe that my general strategy is more towards voluntarism than sheer pragmatism (which is a bad policy for my wallet, though very "polite" towards my fantacies of who i am and what i do).Yes it's philosophical. If it were simply economics i would upload everything everywhere at the lowest price imaginable and i would produce constantly (and they all would suck but they would make me money) losing a great deal of enjoyment that i still have towards certain subjects..

I believe that stock is a product that comes in many flavors -and many prices- set not only by what the product dictates or by what is the perceived price of it.Which is as you guessed always subjective.I might sell a moon timelapse (the most overplayed timelapse ever) for 79 once while everyone else sells it for 10 multiple times and thats not only because i believe that my work is better or because i stood there for 1 hour and another 2 at the computer to finish my workflow.

The way i see it stock is a very surreal world. If you have a model to propose that can be put into effect im all ears, maybe then we can discuss in detail and more specific.
