Hello,

I have just started with Fotolia because of the "Adobe thing" and I have uploaded some of my best footage in there.
The problem is that they keep rejecting lots of them for no reason. Even some animation backgrounds have been refused.

They say that the review team works separtely from the Fotolia team and they cannot explain the reasons that footage is rejected.

Many of these rejected files are selling a lot in websites like Shutterstock, Pond5 and VideoBlocks. No problem at all!

This is my first experience on Fotolia and I don't think I'll stay anylonger in there...

Anyone with same problem here?

cheers

What are the reasons for rejections?
Similars? Technical problems?

for me their acceptance rate was high, but I didn't upload any content for several months now. Be aware that video wise income is really low, far behind SS, P5 or VB. I kept my port there to see if Adobe will boost video sales or not when Adobe Stock adopt video.

anathaya;

All sorts of reasons like intellectual property, quality, too similiar, etc... but I don't agree with 90% of those reasons.

alijaber;

Thanks for the tip :).  I've heard that adobe stock has been working well with videos and that is why I have uploaded some of my files. I'll wait and see...

cheers

Alijaber:

If you don't mind sharing, could I ask you how much one gets for clips on FT?

Presumably there's an 4K/HD/SD price - are most sales at HD?

Cheers

I also have been getting some ridiculous rejections as of lately as i start to upload there. I think the review teams are very inconsistent in handling the way they review files. My files are vector files. Most of my work i either sketch off the top of my head or sketch of something i watch online or through tv. I then refine my sketch when i vector it going through another transformation process as to make it 100% my creation. I attach these sketches as proof in the model release form section. I still get the weird need model/property release things for these things i made up.

It is annoying when you select your best of the bunch that has been selling at other agencies and get generic rejection notices. It seriously dampens your mood to keep uploading your good work there in my opinion. I dare hope not that these reviewers are my competitors at the library and is just trying to keep my stuff out.

Was wondering about commissions too.I have uploaded some test clips and opted out of DPC and subscriptions (didn't they recently say though that video will not be offered for subs?)
Also they accept 4K but hey have not put a price yet.4K and UHD files show as extended licences for 200credits.What's up with that?

Last week I sold my first HD video file there for 25 USD. This was my share. I usually get 22 USD for my sales in SS.

Not true. I regularly get $25 for an HD clip. That's slightly better than what I get from a standard SS sale ($20-$23)

4K pricing right now appears to be 200 credits (the same as the Extended License). Supposedly footage will be included in the Adobe Stock programm (soon?).
Curious to see how this will affect sales.

For the moment the site doesn't seem to be optimized for displaying/selling 4K content (no dedicated search option and pricing information). However they do accept 4K.

if they are selling like hotcakes on ss ,etc why do you want to cannibalize your image further???
ss sales are based on dls, the more dls you get from that image, the more likely more sales come
due to its placement based on performance.
if you continue to cannibalize your sellers of ss to spread thinly to give more agencies,
you will kill your golden goose with ss.
moreover, why put yourself through the abuse of reviewers rejecting your work?
give them works that are not selling, not works that are selling for you.

Ok, volume wise, you are right.
FT can do more about marketing their video collection, indeed.

SS is an non exclusive agency. If a buyer is at SS I don't think the buyer will be shopping at FT or any other agency so why limit your sales by only leaving that hot seller to an agency that isn't even exclusive?  ???

Every agency's review standard is different.  You just need to move on.  It's a waste of time to try to fight.

Feedback on video royalties sounds about right,as long as there aren't subscriptions (are there?)
But FT is not attractive to video buyers that's for sure. They must be the only agency that plays back clips at dropped framerate.I wouldn't buy stock from them if i had to evaluate motion and rhythm of a clip which is pretty much what video is all about.
They said they are in the process of changing their video encoding systems, whatever that means for playback or accepted formats, (prores is bugged) .

I don't have any 4K clips. Looking at my sales there: almost half are HD, others are HD720, M, S

Prices:
HD, HD720, M, S : 75, 60, 30, 12 credits (dollars). You got 30%

Thanks for that - pricing looks on a par with SS

For those who are interested, This is their answer for my questions;

Thank you for your e-mail.

Please note that all the files are reviewed by our selection team. Also note that the selection team is a separate department, and unfortunately we have no influence on their decision.

The main criteria for validation or rejection are: the quality of the image/video, the technical requirements, an incomplete or invalid model release form, the similarity to existing Fotolia photographs and the image's/video's sale potential.

Also note that our search engine works with single words. Compound word phrases entered as keywords are not valid, and this is one of the other main reasons of rejections.

We know that it can be difficult to have an image or video rejected but please bear with us.

We encourage you to please continue uploading more images and videos Online for review.

Kind regards,

Now we are getting somewhere. At least you received an answer. Ill go do the same. What is screwy is their catch-all replies are nonsense in so many cases.

It got me into my mind when I saw that, but I went back to correct some keywords on some rejected files, but It didn't change anything :(

Let me know if it changes for you...

Regarding compound keywords:

Combo words that are OK and will be indexed as keywords are those that are written like that naturally. For example: close up, New York, Empire State Building, Golden Gate Bridge, etc.

You cannot put beautiful girl as one keyword, or sweet chocolate, etc.

I hope this adds some clarity to your discussion.

-Mat

That does help, Mat. Thanks!
