I have started to upload things to stock-website for 6 months. So I am a purely Newbie here.
So I want to know is it a good choice to become a exclusive videographer of Istockphoto.
Or I should upload my videos to every sites which is available for video?
How can I get my earning maximized?

OK am a newbie for photos, Vectors and videos.
So what should I know before I cost money and time to produce the vision product.

Thank you.

Now you can earn 25% o 30% per download...? but in other sites like pond 5 you can earn 50%...

I wish you luck.

The good thing is that you can focus on producing content, not upload

I think it depends on the sorts of video you produce - iStock is quite expensive compared to SS and Pond5 (and on Pond5 you can set your own prices), so if your output is of high production value and sells well it could be worth being Exclusive, but for run of the mill stuff (like mine) you may find you sell very little there.

Also, iStock don't accept editorial video while the others do, so you may be limiting your options unless what you do is mostly studio work.

In my (very limited) experience, Pond5 and SS do best, followed by ClipCanvas and iStock, although ClipCanvas is reported as having some payment problems and I've sold nothing for a while there.

But if you already became an Exclusive Videographer yesterday it's a bit late to be asking, isn't it?

First of all, Thanks for informations! It is very useful. the video is not my main direction. Stock is a part-time-job for me with no presure. But i have made some plan to make some video (all of them are studio work).

If I find being exclusive is not a good choice in a short time , I will decisively quit the exclusive and upload my files to as more as I know.

No. No sales. Low royalty. No respect for the artist.

bravo, congrats. at least this earns you more than a photo download !!! if u r good at vids,
maybe u should do more instead of photos.

btw, if u r exclusive with IS for vids, how do you just decide to go unexclusive? i am sure there is some conditions instead of merely saying you do not want to be exclusive anymore.

Yes, congratulations indeed - and a clouds timelapse!  Excellent.

As for dropping exclusivity, I haven't checked but I would presume it's the same as image exclusivity, that is, 30 days notice and you have to wait 90 days before they will reinstate exclusivity afterwards if you change your mind.

cheers 4 responding to my query. only thing, now that he has this exclusive vid sold... does it affect whether he can remove exclusivity for this vid? if so, it does not mean much to the person who bought it during its state of it being an exclusive vid. because maybe in 2 years it could be available everywhere else.
i have never been exclusive , so i hope this does not sound silly to ask . cheers

It's artist exclusivity, not image/video exclusivity - so yes, the contributor could make it non-exclusive, at 30 days notice, if they dropped exclusivity.

But all the "Exclusive" tag means is that it's only available on iStock - not that the buyer has exclusive use of it.  There's nothing stopping anyone else downloading from there.  All it really means is that the buyer needn't waste time looking for the same image somewhere else, because, in theory at least, it won't be anywhere else.  It's up to them to decide if they think it's good enough to be worth paying the extra price.

It used to be all files on iStock were the same price, whether Exclusive or not, which I always felt was better for everyone;  but presumably the powers that be at Getty did not feel the same way.

ah, cheers 4 the clairification. i suppose that applies to all sites when you select "i want xxx to be the exclusive distributor"  to mean i only have it here with you, ... it does not mean the buyer has exclusive use.
very good !

I know a guy that he was a exclusive photographer to IS.
And because of the bad sales , he desided to drop exclusive. and He started to upload to ss. And He has regrat dropping exclusive now.

I dropped my exclusivity and have no regrets and our colleague Michaeljay regained his full exclusive earnings in just 6 months.

http://www.michaeljayfoto.com/ideas-and-small-talk/the-second-year-has-started-a-look-back/

http://www.michaeljayfoto.com/talking-numbers/same-earnings-non-exclusive-from-istockphoto/#more-1095

But you wont achieve that with just one agency only and you also need time to move up in the different ranking systems, i.e. if you were an exclusive gold or diamond contributor you need to move up to the appropriate levels at the new agencies.

So Michael is extremely successful, because he got his income back although he is not yet at 40% on Fotolia etc...

But I am sure for some people even with the ever falling sales on istock, it is more comfortable to stay exclusive and just make up for the missing income by doing something else.

And those that dont like being indie, can always go back to exclusivity after just 3 months. It really isnt a very difficult choice.

make $ense, considering too that you already have that portfolio and placement with IS. and having to submit to SS does not necessarily mean all your portfolio will be approved. i recall even here on MSG certain ppl saying what IS takes SS rejects and v v.
so there is no certainty u can import 100% of your IS port over all the other sites as well. unless u pull SS chain to parachute them .

A few types of ports don't seem to do well at SS, in which case you either need to change what you're shooting competimg against the masses, or submit elsewhere.
