Title: How much are you earning per clip per year
Post by: leaf on April 18, 2008, 09:58
There sure doesn't seem to be much talk about stock footage but a lot of sites are starting to get into it.  Are people here doing it... is there $$ to be made?

and if you are, how much are you making per clip.. feel free to say how many clips you have too.

I can I ask one of the leading video producers (http://www.istockphoto.com/user_view.php?id=512708) on IS when I see him again.

Are you interested in doing videos? Seems like you are asking a lot of questions about it :D

I thought about contributing when IS started that, but as I understand the videos I make in my Canon A620 don't meet their requirements, or StockXpert's, right?

Regards,
Adelaide

My animation profile earning is 162$/year per video animation clip (still raising)
and 11$/year for camera video on another profile (also raising but much slower than animation)

it´s not surprising.. you have lots of great clips there.

what did you make them with?

Mostly with Newtek lightwave 3D. And camera video is shot with three type cameras small Sony DC-3, Sony DVCAM and older shots with SONY Betacam SP.
Well if you are thinking about video my small Sony DC-3 is quite enough to start. Now you have better models like DC-5 or DC-7. Probably the best buy will be Adobe after FX and playing with video in that software. Most of my clips are postprocess even animations.

Yeah, i actually just bought adobe after effects today so hopefully i can put it to some good use.  It came in an adobe package i got...

I was thinking about the canon hv30, or hv20 for a video camera...
I tried looking for the sony dc 5 or dc 7 but couldn't find any info.  Is that name correct?

Sorry it is HC5, HC7 etc. If you plan to buying canon hv30  I have try it few times and I think it is better camera than this type of sony.

do you have an opinion on pal or ntsc?

I like buying from bhphoto and i see they have the pal and ntsc version of hv20 but only the ntsc version of the hv30.

I live in a pal country but it doesn't make that much difference to me if i had ntsc or not.  I am a little tempted to go with the older hv20 version and pal (since not much was updated with the hv30).. or perhaps bhphoto will get the hv30 version in before too long??

I see that you have rendered your videos for pal?  was this just by default or do you have a preference.

er.. actually it seems like they have both versions of the hv30 - pal and ntsc now!!
however the pal version is $1200 while the ntsc version is only $800  :o

If we are talking about the same camera canon HV 20 or 30 it is HDV camera. So there is no main difference because all cameras produce HD 1080i format. Only difference is in frame rate. In that case NTSC is better because it has 30 frames per second.
And for the video clip buyers they really don't care if it is 25 frames or 30 frames per second. I test this with my clips and there is very little differences in downloads when we are talking about HD resolution. On SD resolutin there is big difference but if you are buying HD camera forget anything about NTSC or PAL and just buy camera what want.

well that does make a lot of sense.

I have read quite a few forum postings here and there on the internet and one guy says one thing then another says he is all wrong, and then another says the other guy is all wrong and it goes in circles.  The same goes for which sells better, 25 fps or 30 fps.

but if it is true that they sell similarly, and the ntsc camera is $400 cheaper and shoots more fps I would agree that that is perhaps the better deal...
