Title: Hybrid Camera for Stock Footage
Post by: sculder1909 on August 10, 2011, 00:29
I'd like to explore my possibilities to selling footage. My background was from production house, but I don't have big camera with broadcast quality.
My personal camera is Sony NEX-5 (I have Canon 60D but it's heavier than NEX-5 and I don't have shoulder rig :p )

I noticed there are alot of underground movie made with Sony NEX-5 on YouTube.
My question is, does hybrid camera like Sony NEX-5 has capabilities to do stock footage?
I know I have to change the lens with better one so it'll have  DoF (movielike).
But how about the sensor / quality / resolution etc from the body itself?

I hope someone can enlighten me before I start to shoot... Thanks alot guys! :)

I think the best option is to upload one clip to Pond5 and see if they accept it.  I find them the most lenient with reviews and they sell well.  The other sites might not be as lenient but if Pond5 accept them, it might be worth a try.

There's going to be some new NEX cameras coming out soon with much better video specs.

I did find this on the istock forum, the bit rate might be a problem with the NEX-5 but it looks like the new cameras are going to have 24mbps.  The perfect excuse to buy a new body :)

hi sharpshot

thanks for the links!
I think I have to push to the limits instead getting rejection..
I'll use my 60D then.

Anyone have experience with hybrid / pro-sumer cameras? Pls share the stories here :D
