Title: Is there a way to promote your stock collection?
Post by: faisalj75 on October 21, 2014, 05:01
I was wondering - as a contributor can we market our media or we are totally depends on the stock site?
What is the best way to increase the sales?

I would say that the best way to promote your portfolio is to build a self hosted site with a link to all your agency portfolios.
Have a look to the model I have implemented on my site www.millionstock.com (http://www.millionstock.com)
Have a nice time! Alex

How do you drive traffic to your site? That's always the magic question.

You are right rimglow...that's the magic question :-)
Personally I'm making daily SEO in the classic ways. I'm going to try Adwords...hope to increase a lot

the symbiostock sites and the symbiostock global searches help by sharing links with other symbiostock members

other ways include making contact sheets you can post on other websites, and http://cascoly-images.com/pix/symbiostock-network-how-do-i-promote/ (http://cascoly-images.com/pix/symbiostock-network-how-do-i-promote/)

Does anyone have any feedback on the usefulness of Google Adwords to the promote the site? It is worth the investment?
Thanks!

If you have very specific content and your agency is specialized in some way let's say medical content a very specific term like 'buying medical images' (just an example not the the best one you can even go more specific with certain deseases etc.) can work. Anything unspecific or broad like 'buying photos' or 'medical images' is wasting your money.

It seems to be somewhat successful for me; I had several purchases last week. But at this point I'm still spending more than I make. I do advertise on Facebook as well (but spend much less there).

I've tried adwords for image collections, but at a low level and no results...

however it's been successful for me for selling classics illustrated & national geographic maps

Since the bulk of my portfolio is on Pond5, I made several websites devoted to specific topics that "pull" search results from Pond5.  If a user clicks on a thumbnail, they are taken to Pond5 to purchase.  Plus, I embed my referral code to all links, so I get added commission if they end up buying, whether they buy my clips or anyone else's:

http://pittsburghstockfootage.com/ (http://pittsburghstockfootage.com/)
http://establishingshots.net/ (http://establishingshots.net/)
http://www.niagarafallsstockfootage.com/ (http://www.niagarafallsstockfootage.com/)
http://www.nolastockfootage.com/ (http://www.nolastockfootage.com/)
http://bigapplestockfootage.com/ (http://bigapplestockfootage.com/)
http://www.clevelandstockfootage.com/ (http://www.clevelandstockfootage.com/)

And, for everything else, I have my "main" artist page:

http://www.orlowskistock.com/ (http://www.orlowskistock.com/)

I have statistical website tracking data from StatCounter embedded in all my sites, so I can see what sites are most active.  As odd as it seems, my Pittsburgh site is the most popular.  I can actually track people looking at the pages, and often, it ends up in related sales a few days later when Pond5 (eventually) sends a sales report.

People ask me all the time how I did those sites, and I said I simply (but tediously) parsed Pond5's API freely-available kit (here: https://www.pond5.com/document/xml_search.html (https://www.pond5.com/document/xml_search.html) ) and made those websites.  I eventually decided to package the code up and made it available for anyone to have the same kind of site.  http://www.mypond5portfolio.com/info.html (http://www.mypond5portfolio.com/info.html)

Good luck!

That's definitely the way to do it. Do you also track how many clicks go through your site to your portfolio (is that trackable?)?

Wow!  Are all of these different sites seperate legal entities or are they all different registered trade names?

Hi.  I don't think there's any official way on Pond5.com to track going FROM my site TO Pond5.com other than to see if I get referrals around the time someone was on my site.  I do keep track of hits and views on each site with www.statcounter.com (http://www.statcounter.com)

But, statcounter.com DOES log exit links, so I can see what clips are popular.  Example:

As you can see from the above example, many of my recent popular exit links are from my Pittsburgh shots, which sold VERY well over the weekend.

I do get plenty of referral sign-ups which I'm attributing to all those sites since I embed my referral code into all links.
