Title: Istock footage reviewing time question
Post by: CaptainYoung on August 26, 2014, 01:09
I applied a IS ftp account and uploaded some footages in their server, but 7 days later I still can't find my files in the IStock site, the rest limits of my upload is still 999/168h. I don't know it's really need such a long time to processing the footage uploads or did I do something wrong? Please help, it's very weird.

First - have you followed the (re)naming conventions as outlined in the FTP Manual (http://www.istockphoto.com/docs/FTPUserManual.pdf)?

If so, check on your "Upload" link to see if you have any incomplete uploads waiting to be keyworded; if not, then check the FTP account to see if the file has been processed.  The "_done" folder you should have created should be gone and there should be a log file reporting the processing done and any errors.

If the folder is still there and the file doesn't appear to have been transferred, then either you haven't followed the naming conventions correctly or there is an issue with the server, in which case you will have to contact support.

If you are just starting Istock has a new upload method for video.  I tried it a couple of days ago but still working through how all of it works because you have to set up a Getty account to use it. But you no longer have to do the folder and file naming method.  Here's the thread. http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=362332&page=1&sp_rid=&sp_mid=6913846 (http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=362332&page=1&sp_rid=&sp_mid=6913846)

Yes, I'm just trying that new ESP thing out... uploading a clip as we speak.

Looks like it could be pretty good actually, though I never had any problem with the ftp upload myself once I got used to it, other than that it was a bit clunky.

I was getting used to the folder method too but it still was a pain in the butt when I wanted to drag and drop 10 videos into another site. I would have to go into each folder and drag one at a time. I suppose I could keep two folders of videos but that's a lot of storage. Anyway I have 10 test clips on the new system. I just haven't been able to figure out I stocks poster frame process to set my thumbnails.

I've never put "_HD" in the folder name, but they end in "_done" which should be OK (if a bit long, though I know of no reason why that should matter... but this is iStock of course).

You changed the file names within the folders to match the folder name (with "_HD" but without the "_done") too, I presume?

If so I can't see any reason why this should fail.  You will need to contact support.

Thanks! I will remove the "_HD" and try again. I hope they won't ask me reupload them via ESP~~~

Actually, I was thinking that shouldn't matter - but the naming convention of course is

Folder name "xxx_done"

File name within folder "xxx_HD"

or whatever, so when you named your folders "xxx_HD_done" it wouldn't work unless you named your files "xxx_HD_HD" ... which I'm guessing you probably didn't as it makes no sense.

Hope it works for you.  Are there no log files in the root directory saying "file not found" or something like that?

ETA: Best not to upload via ESP just now - it seems to be getting itself in a loop, one contributor reports having 800 duplicates (http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=362332&page=8) in the queue from a single submission!
