Well i struggled with this the other day so i thought i would post the solution i found.

when rendering the video I used QuickTime format and MP4 (MPEG-4 Video in adobe premiere) compression but the files still came out as .mov files.

I couldn't get them to be .mp4 files like istock wanted.
What I ended up finding out was that as long as the file is the correct format, you can just change the file ending from .mov to .mp4 and submit your test images that way.  It is perhaps a work around but the test images went through today, so it seemed to work.

And for the search engine for those poor souls who are having the same problem as me :)

Dang, I read this a little too late, but thanks for posting.  I spent what seemed like endless hours on Saturday trying to get mp4 files out of premiere elements.  After about 6 different settings I finally found that if you go to the share and select the mobile devices instead of computer you can go into advanced and find the h.264 format.  This actually creates a .mp4.

There are many different flavors of MP4. DivX, XviD, mov are the most common examples.

You need to have proper codec(s) installed on you computer to be able to create MP4 file from you NLE software. One of easy solutions is to install a codec pack, such as ffdshow.

Normally you should be able to select one of mp4 codecs in your software package after that.

yeah well i think adobe premier DOES have the mp4 codec.. when saving in premier i can save as a quicktime file and choose the mp4 codec.. but the extension ending is .mov

so it is probably a mp4 file with a .mov extension.. if that can be?

hmm.. i am not sure.  Either wait i managed to get accepted and dont have to worry about it anymore.

I had the exact same problem in premiere, but when I went to mobile devices and then chose quicktime and used h.264 it output a mp4 file.  Not at all clear the way adobe set this up.  By trying to make the menus user friendly they made it really difficult to do specific tasks.

Leaf I'd strongly recommend MPEG streamclip for converting your files to required quick time format. it's a shareware and does a great job I have been using it without  a problem. it can be downloaded here:
http://www.squared5.com/
first you can edit your files in A premiere and export as  .avi file then export it to quick time using MPEG streamclip (takes only seconds)
edit:
if you were referring to  full size files to be uploaded to IS (you know you can also upload a low res proxy file for review purposes, which I never do)
here is what I do:after opening your file into  MPEG streamclip Go to FILE  tab then EXPORT TO QUICK TIME choose Motion JPEG A or B if interlaced or choose PHOTO JPG if Progressive  after adjusting quality settings  just click MAKE MOVIE and you are done simple as that:)
