Title: My experience and income after 2 years
Post by: quietfall on March 23, 2019, 07:58
Hi
As someone did this before i would also like to share my experience after one year and a half selling footage.
I post this bcs i m curious if i do good or not, if i m on the right path or not, and in return i trade my insights.
I started in late 2016, worked around 1-2 months and i made like 2-300 clips. And i waited..i waited 2 years to see how is it going, meanwhile i had other work, but in the back of my head i was relying on this idea of selling stock. I know it s too few to jump to conclusions, 1000 clips at least are needed but i did this experiment to see if it worth the work.
I uploaded on SS and i also dump them into the Pond:

https://www.shutterstock.com/video/search?contributor=quietfall (https://www.shutterstock.com/video/search?contributor=quietfall)
Most of the clips don t sell :)). Around 5 clips sell on each agency.
Now i started to upload on adobe also. I m planning to go full time on this.
SS got me 500$
Pond5 400
Thank you, Dan

Looks like a really good start. You'll be able to gauge what subjects you'll have to make more clips on to build more sales

Very interesting insight into your experiences submitting stock footage. There are indeed so many variables when it comes to sales of stock footage like subject matter, how the clips were filmed (composition, general quality etc), the demand for such subjects (commercial and editorial value), the amount of competition there is with other contributors videos featuring the same subjects and keywords and descriptions. I have heard of contributors who have hundreds of videos in their ports complain that they have never sold a single video. Though there are also cases of people with extremely tiny ports (less than 50 videos) who have sold a few clips.

Went through some of the files, you don't really fill in detailed titles or descriptions. In your observation has that harmed you? Is that something you changed at some point in time?

No i don t see any difference, I think it s the same as when you do SEO for a website, it might affect but i m not sure it s critical.
So far i don t have secrets :)) maybe when i will sell a lot
