Title: RPD for video
Post by: makarona on November 20, 2019, 06:20
What is the average RPD (royalty per download) you get from various agencies when selling a video?

I want to break the exclusive on iStock, and I would not put it back on agencies that sell cheap.
On the iStock (exclusive) for me the RPD is 6,9$. Most of files in portfolio are 4k.

Hello. For me, first month where I do the experience of selling video on istock (not -excluded), 6 videos sold for ... 8 euros all :( So certainly, I have sold ancune video on SS nor adobe and even less pond5 in October (but I'm relatively new in the stock) ... but 1 euros video in 4k, against a minimum of 20 dollars elsewhere ... it's a little abused.

Photo exclusive and video non exclusive at Getty-Istock. I only supply video to P5 Shutterstock Adobe. I used to Videohive but not anymore since they started the weekly upload limit. My average return per download is around 20$ file. At SS lower at P5 higher. I do not have a single video at Getty because of their low royalties.

my average rpd is:
ss: 24$
as: 29$
p5: 23,50$
dissolve: 24$

i only submit to agencies with 79/179$ price...
i quit istock years ago with no regrets...be aware that if you leave your port there it'll affect your sales everywhere like pond5 crew stated at the town hall...

iStock has such a low RPD it's insulting. Anyone selling video there, especially 4K, is undercutting himself.

In comparison, Adobe Stock nets me €28 per video sale, SS is on average $16-$23, Pond5 around $35.

If you think it's abuse, then you should close your account. Easy as that.

For me, RPD for video is:

P5       : $26.47
SS       : $21.49
Adobe : $19.51
iStock  :   $5.19

Almost all of mine are HD - in fact I don't think I've ever sold a 4K clip.*

I find that, although iStock pays only a pittance, they do sometimes sell things that haven't sold elsewhere, and once in a while they even sell what must be an extended license of some sort and I actually get a decent amount - but I don't upload anything to them anymore unless it's been on the other sites for about a year without selling at all.  I figure if I already have it but it's not selling then it may just as well not sell on there too!

I'm a little surprised at the OP's RPD being so low as $6.90 when they're exclusive.  Thought it would be higher.

As an aside, another good reason to drop video exclusivity is that iStock don't accept editorial video (unless that's changed since I joined).  You can put a lot more clips on sites that do.

* ETA - Actually I think I may have sold one 4K clip recently on SS.  Got $35.53 for it.

My 2109 video RPDs are:
SS $32.21/clip
P5 $36.33/clip

Is there an easy way to do it for AS? I can only tell that it is around similar values, if not better.

Other than these sites (P5, SS, AS) is it worth uploading videos to any other site?
Does somebody use StockSubmiter or something similar for uploading videos to multiple sites?

Yesterday I cancel my exclusivity, just need to wait 30 days.

P.S.  Thanks everybody for answers about RPD. You helped me to finally made decision and break exclusivity.

In my experince(i'm 8 years contributors full time) it's worth to upload to any agencies that sell your work at 79/179 or agencies that let you choose the price..i'd avoid subscription agencies or agencies that sell your work for pennies...aka istock getty dreamstime and so on...

Hallelujah!

I hope many will follow and even many more will stop uploading their clips to that infamous agency.
