Having less than half of earnings of several previous months. My portfoliois about 750 clips. A friend of mine reports nearly the same (more than 1200 clips)
Just curious is it common thing this March?

Easter and easter holidays were unusually early this year. I am sure that had an effect on sales.

Thank you! Which other major holidays do affect on sales usually? I haven't notice the effect of Christmas and New Year really.

Then you have a good portfolio!
Usually mid- December to early January is pretty slow.
Also mid summer, many people on holidays or companies closed.
For the US also the time around Thanksgiving.
The world has too many holidays...

People on holidays spend money also :)

I guess that's because we had some big bunch of clips submitted in October and November. The most confusing thing about our Shutterstock accounts in March is that Pond5 March was best month ever.
You are completely right about too many holidays in the world but I guess only the US and European holidays really matter. It looks like numerous downloads in Africa and Thailand for example are some kind of freelance activity for big productions in 'expensive' places.

for me also shutterstock was about 50% decline to january and february .
-
the argument of holidays, is that a valid argument? surely the images a buyer needs have to be purchased at some point, so if there is a holiday, the sale decline, but surely they would be higher on the day prior or after? image needs dont disappear because someone has a day off, imo

Photos are making a strong comeback. Footage is dying quickly

Yes, on hotels, air travel, cruises, Margaritas, etc., but NOT on stock photography.

I guess those global 'image needs' just make all other sales during the year. I haven't noticed any higher sales just before or right after some holiday though. The only thing I've noticed is Saturday or Sunday sales almost never come from the US or Europe :)

What comeback do you mean?

that's because of the timeline. ss is based in USA and
yes, the sales i get on weekends are usually in the area of japan (for me at least), and in that part of the world when it is already start of a new week.
-
March was my worst month on Pond5 for over 4 years however SS was my best ever - I just uploaded about 1500 new clips but sales for those haven't really kicked in just yet. 3 or 4 extended license sales also helped bump up the income. April off to a great start too.

BME for me on Shutterstock.
