Don't remember reading about one, but if the subscription is $79 a month, and the most they can download is 5 clips, then I guess it would be a minimum of $7.90 per clip.

So basically I get from this thread that I should just stick with Pond5, SS and VB maybe?..

yes, in my humble opinion.

On the istock forum it said later this year big changes are coming to royalty rates. So although for non-exclusives it's ridiculously low right now. Maybe just maybe they realize this and are changing things?
My sales are still regular at istock so I wouldn't rule them out completely but all my video's are in the signature collection so I get a higher amount per download.

Why later this year?  If they wanted to be serious about video, they would of done something about it by now.  How many minutes would it take to make 4k more expensive than HD?  They would have to raise prices dramatically and go back to paying 20% to non-exclusives, or get rid of contributor exclusivity and do it per clip, to get me interested.  If they were going to do any of those things, I think they needed to do them last year, or the year before.

Has any of the changes iStock made in the past few years been good for the contributors? None that I can think of, so I wouldn't hold my breath hoping that any royalty rate changes are going to be good for contributors.

It would be a stretch indeed.  It's just hard to grasp that Istock would decide they are going to pay higher royalties unless they are using some form of actuary calculation that says if we do this we can end up making more.  For me,  they don't have over 700 of my videos. I was impressed when they created the ESPAWS and thought they were going to really re-think video, but I could not have been more wrong, unfortunately.  If the BIG news is that we are going to pay $12 per 4k clip instead of $6, well......that doesn't fix anything.

"This may change and will play into the new royalties system that we going to be rolling out later in the year yes, that's a dropped hint to something big coming, and we're confident that contributors are going to like it."

Well just have to wait and see if we like it I suppose?

Totally. But it is certainly possible that IS is seeing severe decline in revenue from video defectors. They can't compete without a reasonably good collection.  There is still some fantastic work there, but buyers aren't always looking for that. Sometimes a rotating tomato is needed ;)

IS is just trying to build up some contributor excitement for whatever half-as*ed plan they've got cooking that will moderately placate us until they're in a position of strength again.

I hope that's not the case but history says otherwise.

Anyone earning less than US$20 Net average per download is doing something wrong. That should be the ultimate lowest threshold a professional videographer should tolerate.

Definitely.

$20 is quite different amount of money for the USA, Monaco, Nigeria and Russia for example :) I mean not only usually compared Big Mac's prices but the cost of some professional gear too.

My own experience shows there are no good enough agencies besides SS and Pond5 (mainly food and lifestyle footages). The third and the others are 1-2% of total income. VideoBlocks is being tested now.

$20 may be worth a lot more in less developed countries, but $50 is worth even more. So if the customer is willing to pay $50 or more, why not ask that?

Is there any other agency worth trying?

From high to low sales I submit to: SS, IS, P5, Videoblocks, Dissolve, Fotolia, Deposit, MotionElements, Alamy, Nimia.

Deposit is 100x less than SS, Motion maybe clip or two a month and Alamy, Nimia is 0

Is there any other agency worth submiting that has at least few sales a month? =)

Getty is a no go if you are non-exclusive iStock?

VB has finally come alive for me this month with about 8 sales so far.

curiously, similar here. They're apparently here again. Very nice I'd say ;)

I am not sure what's going on as I had three months of zero sales and all of a sudden I am seeing a mix of sales (different subjects).

me neither, but I'll keep watching. In the past, my sales were equally sporadic there with kinds of clusters followed by lliterally months of total silence. This is so much better now, and it's good to see that "it's not just me"...

Thanks for sharing.

The simple answer is NO I guess :) Time wasted on routine submitting to low-earners rather should be spend on shooting some nice new footages IMHO.
