I like what I'm getting from VideoBlocks so far.   :)

It's possible that VideoBlocks become #1 earner sometime next year.

Power of 100% royalty commission is real!

Pond5 has been inconsistent while Shutterstock keeps doing good job getting buyers although commission is generally low.

I definatly agree with this. I was doing great there then three months ago it just stopped, literally as the next month began. Three months of 1-2 sales now.

VideoBlocks may be eating up P5 sales.

Wait and see what sales are like when everyone has uploaded all their portfolios.  New sites can get good sales, then everyone uploads their portfolios and people start complaining that sales have dropped.

It's not a mature site yet so you are correct. Once the top of the maturity S curve is reached, it will be a battle of volume.

It's odd how different contributors have different experiences.

I read these rah-rah posts by helloitsme (and admittedly don't understand why he or she so strongly wants to encourage competitors to join them, thereby diluting their sales) and wonder what I'm doing wrong. VB remains a distant #3 for me, well behind SS & P5. Also, while others report P5 sales drying up, mine have remained quite steady. (Well, until this month, which admittedly is below average so far.)

I don't mean to imply that anyone isn't reporting exactly what they are experiencing. Just that many of us do seem to have quite opposing experiences.

I seriously cant fathom how people in the video world on one hand advise others who upload to low paying or crooked sites telling them that they destroy their business and also harm their fellow photographers/videographers using the overplayed "solidarity" argument, and on the other hand scold those who post encouraging figures and info in public telling them that they dilute the sales and lose income.
And everyone is asking the same question over and over "Why are agencies so crooked and why cant we photographers unite and create a just and honest community se we can sell our work with pride and dignity?"
Surreal (to say the least) .

Im upset now.
I think i will join vb just for the heck of it, to dilute sales and pursuade others to join when (or if) the sales come.

P.S Imagine my surprise when i will see my vb sales grow exponentially like they do at p5,ss and ds,all these sites with huge amounts of clips (ds smaller compared to ss and p5) growing constantly. (this was for the argument of "diluted sales")

I'm just trying to exchange informations on the state of different stock video sites here.  You speculate too much.  I think it's actually good if all the major video contributors upload their footages to VideoBlocks because that'll attract more buyers to become members there and buy there instead of other lower commission paying sites.  You just think differently than I do because I don't think it's "diluting" contents.  Some people here are too negative and pessimistic no matter what.  I believe that stock video industry including major sites like SS, P5 and us creators grow and expand together.

I wouldn't know about sales because my uploads have been sitting there for 2+ weeks awaiting approval.

I have 0 sales there in like 5 months or something.

Full disclosure: my portfolio is about 25 videos, mostly timelapse.

You are correct, but only up to a point. That point has been exceeded on SS and P5. Because VB has a smaller buyer base, it will take less time for that point to be reached there. But up until it happens, the more clips they have, the more they may help attract new buyers. However, it's even MORE true for their other library (the subscription one). The more clips they have there, the more that will attract new buyers. However, the more they have there, the less they would need to purchase from our clips. It's a delicate balance.

Wow, I am not in videos but like their business model a lot... means 100% royalty thats awesome,
I think other agencies should think the same way. not 100% but maybe 80%, 90%, I am ok with both.

I actually like this a lot too and not just out of personal interest, since i havent yet decided if i will contribute to them.
A lot of people seem to be going with them lately with big portfolios straight from the beginning and i cant ignore that.

Yet there are 2 things that must be addressed. This business model means:

1) That this is a gimmick (for various financial reasons) ,or something worse (which i dont believe but lets, just for the sake of argument),and will blow over at some time in the future, and then we dont (or maybe we do) know whats coming.
2) That this is a completely new paradigm of business ethics and practice, and as a company they have decided to go with a completely different example even dilluting (perhaps) some big salaries, bonuses etc.
3)Cant think of a 3rd option really.

The problem is that unless one wasn't born yesterday which scenario seems more likely?
I wish the second scenario was the one but we haven't seen anything similar in this business,or any business in general.Even they themselves have been a bit cryptic as to how they hope to implement this successfulyl and over time, despite their good intentions (that i will take for granted for the sake of this conversation) .
When you propose and enforce such a model you usually discuss very openly about it and dont go with wishful thinking and soothing talk, and i haven't seen something convincing from them yet.

Am i being logical here,or just a big negative crybaby who feels like he is a victim of capitalism? .
Doesn't matter i still might join them at some point if that will make me a positive person.

Beware of VideoBlocks. Did any of you receive payments from them?

I am from South Africa with a 0% tax treaty with the USA. I am familiar with the tax requirements and have completed numerous W-8BEN forms for all the US agencies that require them (doing this since 2006). In all cases it was a straightforward process and all accepted my details with no problems. However, on VideoBlocks I have now completed the W-8BEN form several times and after weeks of pending they notify me that there is a problem with only a very vague indication of what exactly is the problem. My monthly payments are now delayed for several months.

I am not going to attempt this obscure process again, just to wait weeks before I will know if I will ever receive payment. I cannot continue to sell my videos on an agency where I dont know if I will ever receive payment. I just today requested them to delete my videos and close my account.

The relationship with videoblocks guy is very good, they have been extremely helpful in every moment.
I also had to complete the W-8BEN form for the third time today. They might have some trouble in their signing system.
I'm waiting the first payment on July the 15th. I'll let you know

This is exactly how they operate. You submit the new W-8BEN 5 days before payment is due. By the 15th of the month the new tax submission is not verified yet and your payment is carried over to the next month. You hear nothing from them until the next month. Five days before the payment is due you receive a message that there is a problem with your tax form and you need to complete it again. The whole cycle repeats itself month after month.  I just find it very suspicious that they cannot verify you tax form in good time. Why wait a whole month and only notify you of a problem just before the next payment date?

No sales yet with 50 videos.

The not paying out money thing is very disturbing. I wont upload any more files until I read here from members that I trust that payments are reliable and fast.
