I was searching all over and finding things in one topic or another, but sometimes I couldn't find things again. Now it's all in one place.

Looking at HV20 for Stock. Just can't get past the idea that memory of hard drive would be neater, but it appears that those formats are slower and about half as good as mini-DV quality.

Has anything changed, or is that still true? Maybe I should be asking, is that true?

I was looking at different models and thought I'd check to see if the Canon HV10 might be of interest. Then I looked and the HV20 sells for less? What's up with this? The specs look the same for both of them.

I had a professional graphics guy tell me that I should get the Red Canon video camera. (no it's not the Red One camera) But after we searched, he said, wrong Mfg. it was someone else.

This is going to be an obscure question. The color of the digital camcorder is Red. I've done just about every search and can't seem to find the model and Mfg. that he was talking about. Anyone have a clue for me?

Any reason why I don't want a HV20 for less than an HV10?

I haven't checked prices recently, but the HV20 really is the better camera. I have the HV10 and there have been numerous occasions when I would have loved several of the HV20's features. Namely, the hotshoe, audio inputs, better manual exposure, and the side loading cassette. Still, both of these cameras are the video equivalent of the Powershot series. They are capable cameras, but they are designed for the casual user, not the professional.

Could they be referring to the red ring on Canon's pro lenses? If so, look at the XH-A1, XH-G1, and the XL series. These cameras cost several times the HV10/20, but they are designed for heavier use and allow full controll over camera function.

None whatsoever. Unless it's a used or refurbished camera, or if you can afford the XH/XL cams.

Yes, the HV20 is selling at B&H (and elsewhere) for much less than the HV10. NEW!

No I'm not a pro and I don't have the money. (I spend it all on cameras, lenses, flash units, lighting equipment...)

But I wanted to try to do some stock clips and also it wouldn't hurt to have something better than a Hi-8 to pack when I travel. Even if the only use it ever gets is Home Movies.

To be honest I looked at the Canon line, and cross referenced for video cameras that use the same batteries as my DSLRs, and they are not even the "powershot" level that you allude to for the HV20.

The red ring was discussed, he was saying that it was a red video camera that's no longer made. No big deal. Just one of those mysteries without an answer. I don't know if I'd want a red camera anyway.
