I want to know your thoughts on promoting your own video portfolio on YouTube, i.e. uploading watermarked comps of your footage/animations and providing a download link in the description to whichever agency you want viewers to go to (Pond5, SS, etc.)

Does it actually attract buyers or is it a useless way to promote things? I wonder if people looking to buy footage actually use YouTube to search for footage. However, if I could convince 1 or 2 potential customers to purchase one of my videos they found via YouTube, that would be worth a try.

It really works. And don't forget to make the links referral.

Doesn't work for me! Maybe Vimeo is better place to promote sills and videos.

btw, if we talk about views count - for me the leader is flickr (it allows video also). There is also a very simple way to upload videos to flickr with lightroom upload plugin (it works 100% automatically including tagging etc and you should copy all the metadata to your jpegs files with exiftool to make it all happen) the minus is - flickr doesn't allow any promotion links, except just one link in your account to your marketplace page or anywhere else..
