I get a staggering number of views on GL considering I've had no sales in 6 months.  The ratio of sales to views is something like 1/10 of what it is on IS, and my view numbers are still going up, week after week, with no sales.

I am wondering what accounts for the thousands of views that never result in sales.  Has anyone else noticed this?

I have - with a small port of 20ish images, and 2 months or so on there, I have over 300 views and no sales.

I never take any notice of views, the sites use different ways to calculate views.  GL have enough sales to keep me interested.

Some sites can not differentiate between "human views" and visits by automated crawlers used by the search engines like Google, so they count those as views as well. Ignore views on sites on which you notice such a high counts, as it normally is due to this.

Still getting nice steady sales there, usually 1 a day or every two days.
I also price up a lot of my illustrations so all in all it's working out to be a nice little earner.
I'm glad I'm actually getting a bit of a return from one of smaller the sites I'm supporting on "moral" grounds!

I suppose that when a new site gets known for fair pricing, and for being easy to submit to, the images might pour in a lot faster than the buyers.  Maybe that's why I got sales in my first few month (last year) and then it dried up.  I'm guessing their client base is pretty narrow in focus and as a result a few contributors may find that they sell pretty well, but  most will just sit there.  Same with CC.

But the reported number of views is crazy.

I don't think it's fair to compare them to CC.
CC may have good intentions but I think I managed one sale there before I stopped uploading.
GL is in another league, still not the premier league of course!!

I think GL is one of the best looking sites out there.
Only one sale, but it was an image that hasn't sold everywhere else.

Could this be an illustration vs photo thing?
I mainly do illustrations, maybe they are still better known as a graphics site?

I've sold 28 photos.  I don't have many illustrations but I've sold a few of those as well.  It's not big numbers but I'm pleased with their progress and I see some of my referrals are doing well.  I think most of the people that struggle to sell anything with GL will struggle with lots of other sites as well.  Some people have less than 500 images that aren't ideal for stock and they would probably be better off sticking to the big sites until their portfolio is much bigger or they have more good stock images.

Sure they are.. not that I had a lot of sales but comparing to CC.. CC even got approved corrupted files, they arent paying attention and they are not worth uploading, I have been "updating" my portfolio into some agencies and they werent one of them

This is good news! My GL earnings keep increasing, if the site upgrade increases the rate more, GL could become one of my major earners.

One new thing that came was that they deleted some 400+ of my images (out of 500+) with this mail:

"We continue here at Graphic Leftovers with our site grooming which is designed to clear the image database of intellectual property issues. Images may be removed from your portfolio that range in subject from vehicles to consumer electronics to recognizable persons.
Because of the changing landscape of intellectual property issues, we need to do our best to assure Creative Content that is "Safe" for Buyers to use for any purpose including their advertising work. Redundant content or content which we feel does not meet today's competitive quality standards will also be removed.
We are sorry to say but many images were deleted due to the following:
1. Out of focus, dirt on surfaces, dirty or dented backgrounds
2. Poor photoshop editing - isolations
3. Poor lighting
4. Photos of hotels and other properties we cannot take
5. Poor photo images with high grain, out of focus or lighting issues
6. Simple or low commercial value images
In the future, please submit only your best work".

Me, stupid: I was sure I have to submit only my worst.
Never submitted copyrighted images (or they reject it first time I submit). And, like I've said to them, if I submitted OOF, poor edited, poor lighted images, why did they accept them?
Other thing I'd like is a little education and a little less arrogance: you know, things like "Hello", "Regards" and stuff like that.
I'd really, really like that sites like this one, who have the presumption to be fair with the contributors, would consider contributors collaborators and not annoying botherers.

Ouch,  that was harsh.

Getting an email that said "in the future please submit only your best work" wouldn't exactly make my day either.

I actually dont think about it, I do have a few rejections and are approved at SS, IS, FT, DT etc.. I believe they know a lot more about illustrations than photos but who cares? I keep on uploading just like other agency, close to payout too

Looks like they are finally tightening up control of intellectual property and copyrighted works. I mentioned this last year how they had so many files with copyright infrigement issues that i couldnt take this site seriously. Maybe they are starting to get real buyer traffic. I also mentioned that Graphicleftovers as a company name makes me feel like im shopping in the bargain bin/the throw away aisle/hobby central...
