They have been great with non-people photos, I'm pleased they will have them in a collection.  I don't have people photos but I do have a referral link in my signature ;)

is there a problem with uploads at the moment? Items in the "Upload Queue" don't seem to move to "Pending Approval" when you hit "Submit for Approval"

I am pretty sure it stays in the Queue until the reviewers move it to a pending area. It looks like they have been busy. What went up overnight is a lot of people stuff.

does it mean we can start upload images with people?

^^^If you where invited to upload by email request, yes, the rest of us have to wait.  :-\

Does this mean I can start contributing my people images to GL Personalities?
Not at this time. Since we are a smaller agency and not staffed to handle the large amount of submissions, we have invited a select few photographers to participate in the launch of this new collection. We want to first measure buyer reaction and sales to the collection before we open it up to all GL contributors.

We will keep you informed of the progress and when and how you can begin submitting images.

I for one am disappointed.

I don't do people shots and liked the idea of having my stuff on a non-model site.  Once model shots are introduced it's only a matter of time before my images start getting pushed down in searches by irrellevant photos of happy young models.

Once Yuri & Co. are in the door, an agency is immediately competing on price with all the others.  And that will extend to non-model images too.

I was hoping GL would start moving toward a differentiated microstock market, where agencies might have individual focus that would attract those niche buyers willing to pay a few dollars for the image they actually want.

Even though I do people shots from time to time, I tend to agree with you stockastic.

+1 . . .  it was a relief not seeing all those smiling models all the time.  Too bad but I do understand their point of view.  It is a great site so lets hope it stays that way.

I was hoping the site would be illustration only, so to each his own I guess.  ;D I have to assume they listen to their buyers and see this as a way to grow their business. Hopefully, it works out for them... and me.

Wow! Lisa is there, I'm looking at her hubby right now, he's on the front page :)
I'm happy, I've been wishing and even asking for this to happen for a long time.
Good job GL, and good luck !

Stockastic, I know what you mean, and in a way I have to agree, you're right.
But let's look at it from another point of view - the introduction of people images translates not only to more competition for us, but also to more buyers visiting the agency.
This must be so! It will happen, it will take some time, but it will happen!
I'm confident :)

GL's 52% commission is not something we see every day; I believe we should stand by their agency and help them succeed. Hopefully they'll never go the dark IStock way - that's a lesson to learn - and they'll stay true to fairness and honesty.
Look at the bright side Stockastic, keep on uploading and keep your fingers crossed :)
For now they're the good guys :)

-1 :)  GL buyers currently have to go to the other sites to buy people photos, I don't see much point in that.  I would rather they just use a site that pays a decent commission, lets us price our images and is easy to upload to.  Buyers don't seem to like using multiple sites and I would prefer they use just GL than some of the sites that have cut commissions and don't seem to have any interest in their contributors.

is there anything in their contract that say they will keep the 52% commissions to the contributors? I am all for companies treating their suppliers fairly and wish them success but the skeptic in me thinks more success (more buyers) in these for profit companies tends to lead to commission reductions for contributors in the long run. just like that song "mo money more problems"

There are still a few sites like alamy and pond5 that have been around a long time now and have kept a good commission.  They aren't all greedy barstuards

I agree with (the very observant ;) ) Eirann, and Stocktastic.  But then I would - I have mostly people images and saw no point in uploading to GL with my very few non-people images.  I only recently joined, but have been extremely impressed with the site and the great people that work there!

As I understand it, the people section will be separate from the other images, so hopefully won't steal business from them.  To be honest, I doubt someone looking for an object or still-life would be downloading a person instead, and visa versa.

Apparently, Eirann, you weren't the only buyer asking GL to start handling people photos.  I heard from a reliable source there that customers had been asking for this so they could buy ALL their images at GL instead of having to have accounts at multiple sites.  With that in mind, this seems like a positive development for all GL contributors.

Looks like a very fair agency. How are your sales?
I shoot many European cityscapes and landmarks (they sell OK on IS, SS and midstock) , is it worthwile to contribute them to GL? Are your sales significantly below 123 or Canstock? Or maybe above?

I am not a native speaker of English, but if you ask me, I think the agency name kind of sucks...
However, if they are a decent earner, I would prefer them than a parasitic site with a cool name.

why are you thinking about this at this time?.. Honestly from 52% to 15% there is a big gap no? if they change the commission there nothing we can do just like IS..

honestly I am not getting any sales.. last one was in August.. had 9 sales since March 2010.. I just keep once the submission is very nice, just upload and end of story

If they keep the model shots completely separate from the object shots...  and resolve from day #1 to offer better model shots, better search, and better control of keywording than the competition - then maybe they can maintain their current price and commission structure.

I've only made a few sales there but had hoped this would evolve into something that made sense for me in the future. Currently, with prices as they are everywhere else, I'm not even doing any new shots.

I don't know about that Lisa, looking at the GL Collection makes me think that all photos are going to be in one place, I hope I'm wrong.

They aren't as good as 123rf or CanStockPhoto at the moment but compared to other newer sites, they are doing well.  The upload is so easy, just FTP and that's it, if you don't need a model or property release.  I also like the design and speed of the site and I think that gives them an advantage over most sites.

My experience with them has been pleasant so far.  I have about 850 photos at the site.  I wish them well and hope they attract a ton of customers from other agencies (especially hellman and friedman).

I can't address the sales issue.  They only started adding the people collection to the site today, so way to early to know how sales are going to be.

I have about 500 non people shots on the site for less than a month and one sale, which paid $3.12.

Hopefully as my port builds I can make steady sales there.  The site is in it infancy, but it is run by people with many years of design and stock experience, so I am cautiously optimistic.

I hope they invite me up load my people shots. I've only been uploading my images there since the end of Sept. and have 3 sales on about 600 images totaling $9.36. I too am hoping for good things  from this site.

I had some sales (from my 150 photos) early on, but it died down.  Nothing at all in October.  I am 60 cents from my first payout and apparently will remain there forever.  :)

I agree stocktastic.  If I compare it to other smaller sites like, say, Yay it feels like a much higher quality site all round and I am sure it will become a good seller over time.

Has to be worth taking the time to build up the portfoliol.

I'm doing well at GL. Regular sales, monthly payouts, good referral earnings, etc. And at 52% royalty, I don't feel like I'm selling my soul. :)

Definitely recommend GL for vector folks.
