Just thought it would be interesting to see what people have found is the best balance between price, sales volume and return for them on GL Stock Images.

Which category are your images in at the moment?

  Vectors   Large   Medium   Small
1: $6        $6           $3            $1
2: $10      $10         $5            $2
3: $15      $15         $7            $3

Mine have always been in the middle tier, the $2-$10 range. Sales aren't great, but generally a couple a month off a 1400 image port (photos).

What have you found is best - more sales with lower prices? Or do GL customers not mind the extra couple of bucks for the higher priced files?

It's difficult to know really .   I have got most of my images set at 2$ -10$.  My last sale was a large that for some reason I had set at 3$ -15$ and I got 7.80$ from it.  I find sales there very inconsistent and in the last year have ranged from 1 sale to 16 sales a month.  I am considering going in and changing them all to the 3$ - 15$ but I think with such inconsistent sales it would be difficult to judge if it has affected sales.

I'd say to sell them at the max price. All my files are priced there, and my sales have been steady. I had a great month there last month (over $300 and over 60 sales).

I've kept mine at the $6 default at the suggestion of the site admins, but I think I am going to start moving them up. The sales volume growth there hasn't really paned out, and although things look better than they did a few months ago, it's not what I expected it to be. I'm going to need to rely on higher prices to see progress there.

My logic initially was that at 52% of $6 I was still seeing $3.20 per sale, which isn't bad compared to most places. But there's nothing wrong with the $10 price point, which is common in microstock, so why not go for that at least.

Originally they didn't sell smaller sizes, so every sale was at 6$ = 3.20 - not too bad. Now that some sales are at the smaller sizes for less, I think I'll bump things up a level.

Thank you that is worth knowing.  I have never earnt much more than 50$ in a month there.

Interesting, seems some people are doing quite well there. I agree tho, sales are too inconsistent to really be able to tell.

My thinking with the smaller sites, GL, CC, etc is that if I am going to get sales somewhere other than the big earners, then I want those sales to be worth something, so I have been tending toward the higher brackets on these sites.

I have experimented with different prices in the past (when the $3 price option was still available). I noticed that $15 dollar files sold just as well.

With the 'new' pricing ($6, $10, $15 + smaller sizes), I sell most files at $15, simpler images at $10.

I think with $6 prices, you are undercutting yourself and the value of vector images as a whole. So please, just increase your prices. It shouldn't be a race to the bottom. The best buyers are looking for quality, not the cheapest price available.

hi, is there a way to batch edit price? I know one can set the default price during import but how about existing images?

There's no batch edit capability, no way to set prices for your entire portfolio.

I'd raise them if there were an easy way to do it.

I agree there should be an easy way to do it yourself, but there isn't. I sent them a sitemail and they changed them all for me.

That's what I did. They changed them pretty quickly.

Ok, in response to peer pressure I bumped my prices to $15.  Now let's see if I ever get another sale  :)

It was driving me crazy, but I finally figured out how to change existing images. Go to Dashboard and click on Portfolio. Hover your curser over an image, and an edit option appears:

Now you can change the price of your entire portfolio!

We have had many requests to raise and lower contributor's portfolio pricing. Now you can easily change the pricing for your entire portfolio by going to your profile and selecting the Portfolio Pricing drop down.

Choose $6, $10 or $15 and click update. All images will immediately reflect your option. Please note that this changes ALL previous pricing with the exception of images marked as free ($0), so if you had some priced higher or lower, they will change to the new pricing.

The $6 price category, which makes up about 70% of the site, sells the most. Why is that? Because the $10 minimum deposit is the most popular and allows Buyers to purchase one or more images that are priced in the $6 to $10 range. If images are priced at $15 then the buyer has to choose the next higher deposit amount.

Please note, if you have simple images such as icons, isolated objects, backgrounds etc. raising the price to $15 may hinder sales for those images. You can edit the pricing on those images individually, which is explained below:

Editing/deleting images in your portfolio:
To change pricing or to delete a specific image from your portfolio, rollover the image and click the "edit button". Select the new price and click update or click DELETE to remove from your portfolio.

Thanks!

Kelly

I can't sing the praises of GL enough. For me they have the best contributor relations, as well as some of the best terms, in the business. I have found them to be really responsive whenever I have needed to contact them. This is just another example of how good this site is.
I have seen a steady increase in sales since signing up with them, for me they are the new sit most worthy of our support.

That's a load of bollocks; so they're asking you to price your stuff at $6 or $10, simply because their minimum deposit is $10? Why not make the minimum deposit $15 to increase $15 sales?

Shall we ask for a 75% commission too?
How can we expect anything from fair agencies like this if we're going to get greedy on them?
Meanwhile our work gets sold for pennies elsewhere, makes sense right?
The high price and 52% commission isn't enough?

Can't say I follow your reasoning in this mate.

Nice that they added this capability.  I could name a couple of big operations - Zazzle for example - where people have been clamoring for batch edit capabilities for years and it never happens.

Based on the post from GL I'll move mine from $15 back to $10.

I always had them at 10$, a lot of top sellers even have them at 6$.

Well I would change to $10 - except I can't find this "portfolio pricing" dropdown anywhere.   Has anyone used it yet?

Sure mate, click profile, bottom section ;)

I couldn't agree more, steady sales and $5.20 commissions (all of my stuff is at $10). GL is top three in RPD (behind (ToonVectors and CAO) and top 7 in monthly earnings. I've only needed to contact them a couple of times and I received a response within minutes- not hours, days or weeks. I like these guys and they have my support and respect as a contributor.
