Title: Am I allowed to sell vector maps of cities?
Post by: tiredtanzon on November 09, 2012, 16:03
Hey, I have three quick questions.

I have a stock of self-made vector maps of major Italian cities, the maps also include street names and illustrated monuments on the maps.

Am I allowed to sell these through a stock site?
Is it better to start my own website and sell them through there?
Are there any copyright issues I need to keep in mind? (street names, monuments, etc)

I have been looking everywere for answers to my questions. Perhaps I'm not searching the right thing, ergo here I am! Hopefully you guys can help me.

Thanks in advance

Where did you get the base data for the maps?

On the one hand I would like to know the answer to that as well although I'm pretty sure that you can't sell these maps unless you created them entirely yourself - meaning you measured the streets etc.

If your map is based on an existing map (traced) it's pretty much not allowed to sell these as "yours".

However, I'm willing to learn so maybe someone knows more about this.

I had a couple of illustrations with tourist attractions rejected in the past, so you probably also have to check the monuments case by case (think it was England and France, London Eye and Louvre in my case)
