Hay guys,
I would like to check which is the best processor to work with 3d software? Is window XP 64 bit better than window XP 32 bit work better with 3d software?
-
by many accounts xp 64 was not real reliable and had many issues at the first least you will want to check very carefully that drivers for every piece of the machine is available. imo Vista 64 (and then strip down / tweak) would be a much better bet if you want more than 3.5 gbs of ram.
tomshardwareguide.com is the place for advise on hardware, they do many tests including for many of the 3d softwares. really comes down to how much you want to spend.

Dear Phil
Thank you for the information. If for processor of core 7i which operating system you would recommend? vista 32 bit or 64 bit?
-
sorry I am not really up on the current hardware & processors. I went to 8gb of ram early in the year and got told everywhere to go vista not xp. to my thinking the main advantage of the 64bit is to be able to address more memory the 3.5gb that vista32 allows. I really dont know what advantages there are if any to 64 bit operating system as far as processor goes.
check software carefully for 64 bit compatibility, found a few of the programs I use wont run or run badly in 64bit. Also in photoshop (if you use it) many plugins dont support the 64bit version so if you want to run them you have to fire up the 32bit version of pshop which in my case loses many of the advantages of going 64 bit.

thankyou for the advice
I guess I should go for 32bit.

apart from the processor, do you think the video/graphic card affect the speed of rendering?

yes many system components make a difference RAM, Bus speeds, processor cache, video card, hard disk size, hard disk numbers, etc

I think you have to ask the question in a 3D forum that specializes in the software that you are going to use on your computer.
I'm running 3DS 2009 on a Dell with 4GB RAM and 6600 Quad Core, Win XP Media Center Edition - it's way too slow for me.
These days I wouldn't go below 8GB of RAM and a fast Quad Core if not a proper workstation with two multi-core processors and for sure 64-Bit OS.
But you will get a lot more good info on a special forum.

I'm running 8Gb RAM and i7 processor. Vista 64 bit. Great with the C4D11 and ZBrush 3, both do make use of the 64 OS. I would defo go vista and 64 bit, just make sure your software is compatible. Also different versions of Vista support different maximum amounts of RAM. Do a Google search and make sure whichever OS you have supports the amount of RAM you have.

should have said too that the hard drive is usually the slowest part of any pc so usually the faster the better :)

I'd definitely go for Vista 64 and upgrade to Seven 64 as soon as it's available.

It wouldn't hurt to get an SSD for that part. But do a lot of research on those, there are different ones!

window 7 and VISTA can support up to how many RAM??
-
i suggest vista 64 with 6 GB ram. apps are not using more than 3 GB ram. for windows and other apps keep 2 GB more so 6 GB is more than enough. Graphic Cards are not effecting your render time its effectting whille you are using apps. i also prefer not to buy expensive than 200$ cards. Graphic Cards that has got 512 MB or 1GB ram, 256 bit and more than 500mhz cpuspeed should be enough. For faster renders you need to have quad core cpu (i7 is better but expensive) with high GHz and also memory MHz is effecting render times realy much.

Is core 7i processor better than quad core? What is the maximum RAM it could support?

you can find also some other aplication benchmarks.

Look, if you will be using Autodesk software go here:
http://area.autodesk.com/forum (http://area.autodesk.com/forum)
There are very helpful and knowledgeable members there. Some of them are highly trained professionals. Most of them build their computer around the application. They will tell you exactly what to get.
But do your homework, you need to have some basic knowledge about Operating Systems, hardware and software which you can find all over the internet. Just do some research!
