Okay - I'm not terribly familiar with it, but I have to admit that when I stumble upon the site deviantart by accident I can get trapped spending hours there browsing art.  But something about the design of the website caused me to never take the place seriously.

Then today I see this article and watch the video  http://www.creativebloq.com/logo-design/artists-respond-controversial-new-deviantart-logo-121413651.  I think whoa, looks like they have really moved into the current era.

Nope, revamped site still looks mid 1990's to me!

Do any of our illustrators have work here?  Is it more for "show" than to sell?  I think I might have bought some fire brushes here in the distant past.

I like to go there for inspiration but talk about low commercial value. Way to many dragons, super heroes, and manga. There are a few stud illustrators there. I mean really good. I think those guys use it to generate custom work or sell their books. I bet it works for them too. Mostly though it looks like students who will spend months on a single project. I will admit there are some really nice illustrations though. It's a fun site to visit but I would never upload there. Copyright infringement and theft have to be rampant there. Just look at the amount of Disney and Marvel knockoff images.

The new logo is nice, but the design (both old and new) is terrible.

Until the site design gets an update, the whole thing still looks very 1999 to me. But the logo is indeed a step in the right direction.

Time will tell if they can grow beyond the high-school art class image they seem to have, though. It would be great if they became a more mature community, with more pro artists showing work there.

Just another dated 'cash cow' site that isn't getting any investment and isn't going anywhere.

DA, RedBubble, FAA, Zazzle are never going to change, they are what they are.

totally agree 3 :)
was there a while back and thought of uploading until i chatted with some photographers and models there. i asked them if they were aware of the need for IP releases, or even MR for their nudes... to which they answer, "huh, what Intellectual Property releases???"
and yes, those marvel and manga knockoff artists were also clueless to IP as well.
what surprises me is that the site themselves are not vigilant in this regard.

Got a few designs off deviant art artists for composites. Paid them 50% of the earnings I  made. Incredible artists there who dont realise how good they are and how much money they can make.

Every time I look at the new design I cant help thinking it looks like Dreamweaver. DA is something of a self contained universe, tons of mind blowing portfolios, and probably the largest artist community on the web, yet somehow it feels disconnected from everything else.
