I've been asked to create 25-30 icons, and I'm thinking about doing it since my microstock income is very bad at the moment. But I have no idea what to charge. Any experienced graphic designers here who could recommend a reasonable price?

And how much do you add to the price for selling the copyright to the customer, instead of just selling the right to use them?

Depends on the customer, the usage, the number and the complexity of the icons. I usually ask for 10 to 30 EUR per icon including exclusive rights.

But if I can manage to draw 25-30 icons on one topic, I rather sell the complete set on the agencies
(vector icons, that is) and earn a lot more

10 for an exclusive custom icon? That is absurdly cheap, really.

Yes that is way too cheap. Even for a minimum hourly wage of a designer.

You have to remember that when you have a client commissioning they always get more demanding than you thought... and you end up investing much more time than if you were just doing something for stock.

It never fails for me...is like they want this and that...it sounds simple, straight forward, but then..things start to change, and you spend more time doing this and that...

It all it depends on who it's for and how they will be used.
- friend, neighbour and charity, 0 - 10 euro per icon.
- small business, 20 - 90 euro per icon.
- big business and listed companies, 100 - 500 euro per icon
- exclusive rights

I rarely have that problem with my clients (fortunately I can handpick them), and they wouldn't want to pay more. I earn the bigger money with other services they hire me for, like advertising and photography.

Thanks for all the replies.

Seems like such a hassle to do custom jobs... writing license texts, mailing back and forth with clients, avoid getting screwed, etc.
