Title: IPTC info and vectors
Post by: leaf on October 14, 2008, 04:34
Has anyone gotten, say Shutterstock for example, to read the iptc info from the eps or jpg file?

Or perhaps my real problem is, I typed the IPTC info into illustrator in the .AI file but when i saved it to EPS it lost all the IPTC info :(  any solutions?

found a little help allready on shutterstock

http://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/post-697973.html

it looks like it reads the iptc info from the jpg file - which i think i recall getting to work one time, but I would really like to put it in the AI file and have it carried along the whole way so that in the future if i create different EPS files or other file formats the iptc info is still there..???

Ok, not sure why it wasn't working before but this the workflow that I think is working now.

First save the AI file

then
FILE > Save As... > save as an EPS version
Export > save as a jpg version

it seemed to take the iptc info now....

I usually make two JPGs from my eps file one for SS and one for the rest then I select both files and using the Microsoft photo info utility I embed both sets of IPTC data at the same time.

I found that uploading eps and JPG to SS using the HTTP loader was very reliable both files arrive and IPTC data is read. Often I found with FTP one file would get lost and IPTC data would be misread.

ditto-- almost.
I create a large jpeg for the rest, stick the data in this, then downsize and resave for SS at 900px on the longest side. So end up with two jpeg versions both with the data embedded.
Never had a problem getting the data read when I ftp the eps and jpeg files together to SS
