Title: use ipad as writing tablet
Post by: mtkang on June 22, 2014, 08:37
Hi guys,

It seems to me it is possible to use ipad or any tablet as a drawing tablet like wacom,

do you guys use it? try to search for it but didn't come out as any app..

i know it is not a replacement of wacom, but i think it is useful when one need a handwrtiing tablet with precision is not that critical.

thanks.

Do you mean you want to use it like a Wacom to draw on your laptop or desktop computer, or to draw on the iPad itself, separate from a computer?

I haven't seen any app like that, and I'm not sure how it would work. You'd have to be careful not to let any portion of your hand touch the surface of the iPad, because the touch of your hand will register on the capacitive screen, I believe. (I could be wrong.) So it would be awkward if you lay the iPad down like a Wacom.

Edited to add: ha! Turns out I'm wrong. There are several videos on YouTube explaining how to use an iPad this way. Rather than using a graphics app, you would use an app that lets you control/see your desktop from your iPad. I just googled "using ipad to draw on computer."

Just get a wacom they're cheap nowadays. I have bamboo and cintiq 13HD. Definitely worth it. It'll make you process images faster, a lot faster.

Lower end bamboo doesn't seem to be much different from my cintiq. This is from a photographer's perspective.

That's a good one.

There are also some good Bluetooth stylus options available now. Wacom makes one. They're not cheap, about $100 I think, but you get a lot more control with a bluetooth stylus than with a non-synced stylus. It also gives you some of the pressure sensitivity that Wacom tablets are known for, which is also something missing from a non-bluetooth stylus.

Just found this app, Air Stylus:

https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/air-stylus/id866209563 (https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/air-stylus/id866209563)

but I didn't try it, seems to be working with Photoshop and other Software.
