Title: ArtistProtect.com
Post by: elvinstar on March 19, 2013, 11:23
I though that it would be a good idea to start a new thread for this topic to see if there is any real interest. So far we have 2 possible domain names:

We had discussed allowing members to post infringement finds and some sort of DMCA assistance.

There was discussion of including other useful resources (e.g. model releases, property releases, etc)

Please post any other ideas on this thread.

Thanks!

Regarding DMCA, it has been brought up that only the copyright holder can request a takedown. What if the site were to provide a form that users could fill out and it would provide them with text to copy/paste into their own email? We could also create PDFs for users to download.

What are you thoughts on which would be best?

How about creating a browser plugin that would let you identify an image and the plugin would grab the URL and generate the email with your previously uploaded personal info, so the process to generate the DMCA message is as simple as possible?

Here is a link to the start of this idea in the middle of another thread for those trying to catch up. http://www.microstockgroup.com/image-sleuth/biggest-rip-off-in-microstock-history!-shocking-finds/msg304587 (http://www.microstockgroup.com/image-sleuth/biggest-rip-off-in-microstock-history)

Can somebody help with the link?  Copy and paste not working for me, not sure why not, maybe the ! in the title of the orginal post?

I like artistprotect.com.  It would be nice if reported sites could be shown so we can check for our own images. Finally, if the site is stealing photos or vectors or both would be nice to know.

I've never created a browser plugin before, so that is not something that would be available immediately. It is a good idea for later if I can learn how to get it done.

I had planned to keep a list of infringing sites for users to reference. I like the idea of letting users know if they are infringing on photos, vectors, or both.

+1 I think that the site is useful if offer some service like that, no cost at all but service. Probably some link to resource about copyright infringement, how to do the DMCA. We need to educate not only potential buyers but also artists I tought.

I just sent out several DMCA claims to various web sites (layoutsparks.com, photobucket.com etc.) and I noticed a challenge:

One issue that needs to be addressed is that certain sites require the DMCA claim in a specific format.

They have bullet lists or something similar where the information provided has to be in a particular order - it's not just a generic DMCA claim.

This has to be taken into consideration when setting this up (if it wasn't already on the list...).

Thanks! Can you post a list of those sites?

It would be very helpful if anyone reading can post links to the DMCA policies on various sites, as well.

As long as all of the same information is required, just in a different layout, it should be fairly easy for me to allow users/members to select the site(s) that they need to send the DMCA to and it would provide the PDF in the appropriate layout.
