Right?  I've seen this so many times.  People are crazy.  That's why the watermark is necessary.  If in fact they do use the web size of the image, you just have to look at it as free advertisement.  If someone reports it to istockphoto I'm sure they'll send the website a cease and desist.

Considering that the content is from Seigel+Gale, an extremely well respected branding company that created many of the most recognizable logos and brand names in the world, I can only conclude that it was a mistake. If anyone is well aware of copyright, it's this company. Hopefully Istock will go after them. ( and probably get a good settlement that the contributor will never see ;D )

It doesn't matter what size it is, it is still theft of your intellectual property and people who get caught doing it should be punished.

That could be just a mistake, a human error (someone forgot to replace the dummy image with the real one )

It could be a mistake, but I think you are being way too kind.  ;)

Yes... maybe it's because I'm a graphic designer too and I know how easily something like this could happen... :)
(Especially in this case the watermark is barely visible...)

As am I, for the last 30+ years...of course everyone makes mistakes, but please. Is there no one at that company that looks at their website and can see the watermark, including the graphic/web designer? I'm gonna guess it's not going to be corrected until they get the cease/desist notice.  :)

when you find these do you also report to compliance enforcement?  at iStock it would be a simple email to ce (at) istockphoto.com  -- I dont know about the other sites

I always shoot off an email to them when I find one of these and give them the URL and, if I am not in a rush, a screenshot of it as well.

I'm also a graphic designer and I think it is impossible to make a mistake like that. When designing a website and upload files to the server, you usually check the website online to check that everything is in order.

I have sent a site mail on IS to the contributor.

This would appear to be a Wordpress powered content managed site, and it would be unlikely that the article was uploaded by a designer. There are numerous other articles and the ones I looked at don't seem to perpetuate this error - where humans are involved mistakes can be made without malicious intent.

I once reported a mere blog that was using a watermark IS image and they did nothing about it.
