Title: Is this a partner or what?
Post by: RacePhoto on January 23, 2011, 03:08
Doing a search for images in use, I found this one which was unusual. I thought I removed this shot from all agencies, last year. Now I'll need to check and cross the image number to see where it came from. But I wanted to ask here if anyone knows what this place is about or who they are getting the images from? I'll try the number 2384761 on my active sites and see if it matches anywhere.

BigStock number. That's strange? And no I didn't remove it from BS, it's an active file there.

Must be a partner. I found my whole portfolio there.

Found my port there too, must be a partner. But I have been opted out for a few months now (since the pixmac/colossus thing). So it just goes to show that once you are in a partner's site, you are there forever. There is no leaving unless we happen to stumble upon the site.  >:(

Thanks for the heads up, Race.

Still searching and trying to find just one of my sales in use. :D

Yes, the more I read about the Colossus fiasco, the deeper it gets for crazy things and partners. Thanks to everyone who figured that out and brought it to light.

My images are those I have on Fotolia [EDITED: actually it is BigStock. My mistake.]. Strange thing is that they have their own thumbnail images with their own watermark (which isn't very good, but that's another story). It might mean that they have full-sized copies in their own databases and BigStock doesn't have any control of the sales statistics.
Am I too paranoid?

Paranoid? Not at all. See this thread.

Some partners apparently are caching hi rez images, reselling them, and not reporting the sales to DT, FT, BigStock or whoever.

It seems that partners get thumbnails without watermarks.
But I think it would be wise if all the agencies would make the list of their partners available. There are so many places where we can find our images...

Oh, good. It might be correct then.
Making partner sites names available would be a nice gesture to photographers, but I doubt it will never happen. I would like to see it though.

Thanks, Cathy! I read this announcement... :( Great that DT will do something about it.

At least they seem genuinely bonafide; i mailed them last night to ask to remove my pictures since i opted out of partner programs on Bigstock  a long time ago and promptly got a reply:
We follow the strict rules of protecting the copyrights of all the images from BigStock and its contributors. Our server is connected to BigStock's servers. The images are not stored in our servers. if you have chosen to "opted out from API or resellers", your works should be not accessible via our website. What you see may be some "caches  pages", our customers actully can't purchase and download your images. these caches pages will disappear probably within a few weeks. if you find you can still find your image thumbnails in our website after a few weeks,  please contact us again, we will check with BigStock, and fixed it.

Please be noted, we don't keep the copies of images without warter marks. All the original images are stored and called from BigStock servers. and, We protect your copyright as BigStock. don't worry about it.

Finally, we really hope you can opt for API or resellers in BigStock, so that your works can be purchased in China, which means more chances of realising the value of your works.

appreciated :)

Any chance you could PM me the email contact you have? I could not find one on their site, even after I google translated it.

I'm not understanding why it takes a few weeks for cached pages to disappear. Can someone explain that to me?

My portfolio is also there. I emailed BigStock, but as of yet, no reply to my email.
