Apparently Google will implement an algorithm to ranks pages lower if they have a history of copyright infringements...

Maybe sites like Heroturko and the like might sink to the bottom at least on Google.

One step in the right direction. Right?

Yep! Hopefully it will work that way, and other search engines will follow google's lead.

I already do this to sites that fail to respond to my emails. As i have said in previous posts elsewhere. I am not prepared to tolerate this anymore. Once site i actually had to DMCA the host as a result the whole site got taken down. Im seriously considering taking that matter further with that particular person.

You can also report infringing sites that use Google Adsense to display ads and earn revenue from their site. The Adsense site has a page where you can report a site that violates their terms, which include terms about not using Adsense on any site that violates copyrights.

Similarly, you can do the same for sites that use BuySellAds. Those typically appear as a group of small square ads on a site. When you click one of them, you can briefly see the BuySellAds URL in your browser address bar to know that the site uses BSA. Report them to BSA and they will have their account terminated. I've done it, it works.

Lately I've been skipping straight to DMCA notices sent to website hosting companies to get sites suspended or shut down. That seems to work pretty well also. Some hosting companies don't immediately suspend sites, and try to mediate the situation through contacting the site owner first, but some do immediately suspend site hosting accounts. In either case, it's been helpful for removing my work from pirate sites and goes a step further towards getting some of these sites shut down.

HeroTurko is the elusive one. They move the site a lot, they use hosts that don't care about DMCA, etc. But at least this helps stop some of the HT wannabes that crop up and try using HT content and links to create their own illegal content distribution sites and earn ad revenue from them.

I wouldn't bother with emails to these sites. We're not obligated to try contacting the site owners before resorting to DMCAs. I just immediately go to a DMCA when I find my stuff on a site now. It's faster, more effective, and it's exactly what these site owners don't want us to do. Every time someone DMCAs them, it puts them one step closer to their site getting shut down for good with their host.

Besides that, I often either don't get a response when I email the site owners, or they remove my content and then just put it or some other work of mine back up on the site a few weeks later. It's a waste of time.

I find this sort of tactic better than trying to sue people. It's much more free market, far less fascist.

Gosh darned, that is fantastic. I am so frustrated with them as illegitimate links are the most dominant for me, it is almost impossible to find my art from a legit source as the pirates get much better traffic than I could ever hope for
