So the thief downloaded your videos on iStock paying $5-10 per clip on their subscription plan? Wow. It's not safe to sell videos on any subscription plan now. Only Pond5 clip by clip purchase system is safe. Thieves won't pay $50/clip to upload them on their own.

Partner Site? Or has someone found a way to steal from iStock directly, without paying anything. It wouldn't make sense to pay for all of these.

I don't know. But someone posted link on iStock forum to a online tool where you can download iStock and Shutterstock videos for free in HD resolution, which is very disturbing. That online tool remove watermark and create new file, which you can download and use. I assume that thief use same technique.
I am iStock exclusive for illustration too. Many of my files, and other iStock exclusive contributors files are on Shutterstock. It is time consuming to catch all thiefs.

Can't remember, but there are plenty of videos on Youtube how to download hd clips from iStock and Shutterstock using that technique. We report that videos regularly.
-
I just checked, and there are plenty of videos that teach everyone how to steal images and videos from stock sites.
Have a look.

Kind of pointless to post videos on sale on stock sites if they can't prevent that. I upload videos on ss as well, but have no time to check thieves. But glad that I deleted my IS account, less things to worry.
-
Is this mainly an issue with IS? I was about to upload my portfolio there
-
I'm glad I don't upload to iStock. Canva and iStock has a partnership. That's enabling those free download by thieves.

Glad that I'm not Canva contributor and deleted my Istock account with them this month. By reading that, is really something to worry about.

I can only recommend, stay away from all the sites that sell your content for pennies, or were custommers can even steal your content for free. And especially stay away from all the unlimited downloads sites, because thats how i ruined my portfolio, thieves stole my entire port, and keep uploading them everywere over and over again. I went now exclusive with pond5, so at least my new content is not going to be affected anymore.
Its time to start respecting our work more, and treat it as such, because if you dont respect yourself, others will make use of that.
Best of luck to everyone here.

Which pretty well eliminates every stock site, doesn't it?

And what's worse is, then artists have to contend with thieves who are competition, for those minimum pennies, with your own works.
