Figures have been updated as June is over

The summer slump seems to have begun at some sites but not others so a fairly average month overall.

SS   47.2%
DT    17.7% *

FT    8.4% #
StockXpert 7.2%
123 6.5%
IS    6.2%
BS   5.9% #

FP   0.6% #

* BME at DT by 22c
# worst month of 2008

For any of you with a video camera I have recently made a webpage comparing the three principle sites selling footage

FYI istock allows ftp uploads for video for non-exclusives... unless i slipped through that is!!?  I have an ftp video account in any case and i am not exclusive.

Anyone want to add a total earnings poll to this?

The numbers on the right hand side of the screen; is there a ryme or reason to those or are they purely subjective.  If so, what is a starting point to vote?

Only istock, but not too summer slumpy yet. Downloads stayed fairly flat, with only a 2% increase. Royalties were up 27% from May.

Column on left was May

SHUTTERSTOCK   96.6   138.38

Interesting month. All ups and downs are compared to June 2007:

SS 43% - up 43%
IS 14% - down 2%
DT 12% - up 3%
FT 10% - up 84%
BS 6% - up 87%
123 5% - up 142% BME
StockXpert 5% - up 52%
Scans 2% - up 67%
FP 1% - up 337%
SV 1%

Total: up 35%

The big winner is SS, which hasn't done this good since last year. 123RF is also doing nicely, and that seems to be a lasting trend. DT is losing sales month after month. Nothing but negatives since they introduced subs. My summer sales at IS have always been low. Nothing new there.

Numbers compared to May-2008 (was BME).

Revenue down -20% :(

Percentage:

istock                       46,2%
shutterstock              17,7%
dreamstime                10,0%
stockxpert                   7,4%
shotshop (german)        5,8%
fotolia                         4,8%
digitalstock (german)     4,1%
123rf                          2,6%
bigstock                      1,3%

Not a singe sale at panthermedia, first time this happened since Sep-2007. Worst revenue since Oct-2007 at the other two German sites.  :(

Highest relative percentage ever for istock (although revenue there is down 13%).

IS: 40% - up 32% on May - BME
SS: 38% - up 18%
DT: 13% - up 30% BME
FT: 6% - up 42% BME
BS: 2% - up 45%

Overall it was a month of 2 halves - the first half was below budget, but received a significant spike in the last 2 weeks both from increased downloads and a few extended license sales. Overall still not quite up to the 1K per month mark, but getting very close :)

July is the lucky month hopefully!

I missed my goal of $400 due to a very lazy month.  I added only 15-20 images, so I have only myself to blame.

However I am thrilled with June 2008.  Despite the onset of the summer slowdown, a struggling economy, and a lack of new images on my part, I came within $3 of a BME from April.  And in many ways, I consider this to be my best month in microstock as I was only aided by 1 EL.  April produced 3 or 4 EL's.

Total:  $340

Shutterstock 41.6%  (BME for downloads)
iStockphoto 18.4%
Dreamstime 14.4%  (BME)
Fotolia 9.5%
123RF 5.8%  (BME)
Bigstockphoto 5.4%
Stockxpert 5.0%  (BME)

Actually SS earnings this month were fairly close to a BME.

Just have been having a closer look at SS in terms of number of downloads Feb was my best month this year in terms of number of DLs there so i divided all the others by Feb's total.

Jan    0.84
Feb    1.00
March 0.94
April   0.86
May   0.76
June  0.71

Looking forward to the autumn with increased DL numbers combined with the 38c per DL.

SS   39%   17%
IS   13%   -7%
DT   11%   -31%
FL   10%   29%
StockXpert   10%   16%
BS   7%   23%

I'd also like to see a poll about earnings.

Shutterstock                56,41
Stockxpert                   12,32
Fotolia                          8,88
Dreamstime                   7,15
123 Royalty free            6,50
iStock                           6,16
Most Photos                  2,34
Big Stock Photo              0,24

BME with 18% more earnings than previous month. Only StockXpert was down by 7%, on all other sites I had a BME.

Other observations:
- finally I'm starting to see better earnings across all sites. SS still makes the majority of my earnings but it's overall percentage is falling, which is good since my earnings are more spread out and less sensitive about changes, performances of just one site.
- getting more and more subs at DT, sales were up by 150% but earnings "only" by 80% because of that
- I'll give BigStock just one more month before I stop uploading. Let's see how it performs.
- First sale with MP, which made more than BigStock in whole month
- overall I'm very, very satisfied with MS earnings after just 6 months (for most sites evev less). Will probably see a slowdown now, since I'll go on vacations. But that's a good chance to make new photos, relax and get some new ideas. Plus I'm gonna try something new in the next couple of months, looking forward to it.

June surprised me by being slightly up from May and only a bit down from April, which was BME.

With the long 4th of July weekend in the US along with summer vacations I doubt July will perform as well.

IS    39% (up 2%)
SS   18%
FOT  15%
DT    11% (up 1%)
StockXpert    8% (down 1%)
BigStock    5%
123    3%
CREST 1%

Seems we don't do the earnings poll every month, but once in a while it's fun to see how people are doing. So how was June for you?
