Good catch!

Also you get this pop up that basically scares you to see the marketplace results when you select it on the left column, It makes it even more difficult for making potential buyers search.

I have contacted VB with my concerns as a complete lack of sales is pushing me to stop uploading and re examine the future if it continues.

From a high of 900/mo now just one single $35 sale. How quick VB fell to the lowest earners is troubling.  All they had was price was lower now at the same price buyers stay on the big 4.  Sad news to end the year.

Adobe Stock / Re: Important Fotolia Announcement
« on: November 05, 2018, 17:02 »
The keywording Adobe tool needs to include copy and paste of blocks of keywords (Preferably in a box field). Right now it is one by one which is slow and painful. Fotolia has this before upload and this needs to be implemented before and after upload to streamline contributor file preparation and maintenance.  Thank you!

Just got my first $39.50 commission from a $79 sale. Seems things are finally moving along with the announced changes.  :)

General Stock Discussion / Re: Bad july.. How was yours?
« on: August 06, 2018, 15:46 »
17% down compared to May or June.   Until Getty/ iStock reports I won't know the whole picture but it seems to be the usual summer slowdown.

Lots of $1.5 video sales on SS which is very troubling.  I find it hard to believe so many websites are using video backdrops like that.  My guess is someone is gaming the system and getting videos on the cheap.

I think I qualify for the Video part CC as I have met the requirements, have not received a message yet, so maybe in the next few days?

I already bought my Adobe CC Yearly plan so It would be great if I can save the code for renewal next year.  Thank you for giving us contributors this perk, since many of us are loyal Adobe customers it is just one more reason to stick with the platform.     :D

VideoBlocks / Re: Commission cut
« on: July 16, 2018, 16:13 »

I echo your sentiments John,

I believe if they said 70% or even 65% instead of 50% this could have gone much better. As the commission now stands to be $24.50 for HD then it falls into the lesser pay brackets of other sites. The sales have been reduced drastically from a year ago and now the cut makes it even less inviting to upload.  I've never sold a 4k clip there and never have had a non-subscription member buy a clip either.  Used to have a couple of dozen sales a month and this July so far is just 1 sale which is probably the lowest in 3 years.  They need to get us above the bottom of the barrel commissions to work out the lower sales and do not necessarily believe sales will flood in after the changes have been made.  We all knew the business model was due to change, but this is quite drastic without a gradual approach.  :(

My letter to them.
Hello,

As a videoblocks artist with thousands of high quality clips here I am saddened by your news! You are now going to be one of the lowest earners per clip sale instead of the highest. This will force me to not give you certain content due to the low pricing return! A much better move would be to stay the leader for artist is to be at 75% instead of 50%. I have been in this industry for years and this is a mistake! You should have also lowered your 4k price to $150.00. You see the value is in the buyer getting a great price for subscribing to your service and the artist getting a great return a win win in this industry. Now you are lower and offer less features you will not be able to compete with Getty, Adobe and Pond5, shutterstock unless you stand out. What made you stand out is how you treated the artist! Sorry to see this go out the window.

Adobe Stock / Ordering Keywords New Bug In Site!
« on: June 20, 2018, 20:11 »
So about 5 days ago something changed in the Adobe Stock site and the Ordering keywords dialogue box in our portfolios is now behaving badly.   The area for selecting and writing triggers the move and drag on the mouse instead of the text select cursor.

This should only be after the text box not within.  This makes it extremely frustrating to order and fix the relevance on keywords.  The image attached shows the area that is not working properly in Red.  Note I tried all sorts of browsers from Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Explorer/edge and all have the problems.

Please Fix this as it was before just 5 days ago, it seems to be a problem with the cursor area script being broken in some update.

Thank you!

General - Stock Video / Re: The end of QuickTime PhotoJPEG??
« on: February 28, 2018, 02:10 »
I'm not updating Premiere or After Effects. Agencies should really get together and have a workflow for PC users who are probably the majority of their contributors. Is h.264 maximum quality as good as PJPEG? I have never seen this as the case while transcoding.

Artbeats used to be the real first royalty-free video company in the 90s which seemed to thrive when the net made clip downloads accessible. They used to offer the best quality anywhere with film scanned pyrotechnics and other effects which cost a lot to produce.

They were also very expensive at $499 each in some cases. Now they are closing their doors in 7 days and you can get the entire clip collection for $2,599 on two 8TB drives dang!!!   Wonder if they tried to sell to other sites for pennies on the dollar and had no takers.

I remember how hard it was to get a clip on their site as an independent producer and was turned down when I tried which seemed counter-intuitive since they had clips of much lesser quality than what I was offering.  Maybe this barrier of entry is the one that did them in by being unable to grow the collection and adapt to microstock offerings which offered all sorts of quality and price points.  For any TV, production house or Movie studio, the bargain bundle may be worth a look for 14k clips.  For me, I will pass and rather invest in a new camera.  Adapt or perish!  :-\

The email I got from Artbeats below:

General Stock Discussion / Re: Adobe Knows How to Advertise
« on: February 15, 2018, 21:23 »
They have the resources to do it. Adobe has net earnings yearly "1.7Billion in 2017" of nearly half the entire value of Getty Images.  Which means they are able to really make some huge advertising moves.    Stock for them is really a drop in the bucket compared to their CC business.

Adobe Stock / Re: Indexing in Adobe Stock vs. Fotolia
« on: February 09, 2018, 19:39 »
@MatHayward

Seems I am out of luck. By just allowing pasting a block of keywords on the already approved files it would be enough. Only Fotolia/Adobe asks for this keyword relevance order in the stock world and as such the tools to make it possible should be easy to use and not cumbersome for all stages of file adjustment.

All my new uploads are being ordered properly on my end for a couple of months but I found out about this relevance after the fact over a year later than I uploaded must of my footage.   Why have two different interfaces at the time of upload and later?  The code is already built it is just a matter of calling that code object for already approved files.

Hundreds of hours of wasted time fixing this is really no fun!  :-[

I am trying to correct the keywords on already uploaded videos to match the relevance by order.  I am using this URL to fix the files in Portfolio: https://contributor.stock.adobe.com/en/portfolio/videos

I am not able to copy paste anything, I have to do it manually for every file and order them individually only even from the same batch.  Pasting and pressing enter does nothing in any box.  The interface is not the same as in the submission /keywording page for new files.  Hope that clears it up.

Adobe Stock / Re: Indexing in Adobe Stock vs. Fotolia
« on: February 08, 2018, 17:03 »
@MatHayward

Thanks, Mat but I am not talking about the recent new uploads. I am trying to order all my previous footage keywords as I uploaded this footage with the keywords from my CSV which is not ordered by relevance. Adobe/Fotolia uses keyword order of importance which is now forcing me to order these.  If you guys could add a way to copy and paste keywords in blocks it would be a real lifesaver for older uploads.  I have thousands left to order and with the current interface, it is really a slow and painful process which could be streamlined if we had the same interface as recent uploads to fix the older ones.  Any help would be appreciated.  :D

Something is driving me nuts...  On the Adobe Interface you can fix keywords according to importance, add and replace them etc.. But I have files from the same series and cannot copy and paste the keywords, taking literally several minutes per file. This is such a workflow nightmare.

I have to manually order every file in the series as there is no replace keywords function. To anyone that has a fix please share!  :-[

I opted in, for now, it may work ok after all.  Willing to give them a chance and support them.  I would rather see them pay us 80% commission and use the 20% to grow the business and client department than venture into the PP world.

They state you can opt out at a later date if you need to which is a good thing.   We all know how iStock's PP was a horrible experience, but the VB/SB team may be able to pull off something good for all involved.  Stay tuned!

I also got the email and passed, they wanted my most recent clips which were costly to produce. They wanted 100 clips for about $30 a clip.   That doesn't even get me to break even on the time and cost of making just 40 of them.  Had to rent an expensive camera, lights, and more costs.

Another big site came to me with a similar offer about 2 years ago for 300 clips for 20k USD.  They also wanted my best selling, did the math and between taxes owed for the contract payment, it came about $50 per clip for perpetuity.  I also passed and now after two years those same clips have generated over 30k in 2 years and they are still my property.

I am not saying it will not be a big deal for some video factories that create thousands a year but for me, as a lone producer, it can certainly kill any chance of revenue hikes long term.

Why will this be scrapped? They could just add an on of switch in preferences. Its not as if they are coding changes for these codecs. They are just using old code. This is such a crappy move by Adobe, tons of archival footage is in these codecs, aswell as cameras sold today that record on them like the Pro Canon DSLRs. We need agencies to standarize on a specific open codec setting and not ProRes which is closed.

Shutterstock.com / Re: New submission editor page
« on: November 11, 2017, 02:22 »
From probably the best upload interface now it went to nearly the bottom of the heap.  The old interface wasn't broken and worked fine, give us the option of reverting back to it SS.  Uploading like this is so frustrating with barely any visual space on the right side.

The keyword suggestions now have to go to a new tab and copy them back, before they filled on top. This is extra work and clicks. I could go on but in short, it is not a step in the right direction!  :-\

Newbie Discussion / Re: what's with all the frustration !
« on: September 06, 2017, 16:29 »
If 90% of people got fed up with microstock and left taking their portfolios with them; then the 10% that remained would be seeing higher revenue and sales increases. Making the community much happier!

Then as word got out that microstock was a good business again droves of new and older veteran artists would flood the market once more to create a new cycle of oversupply, desperation, mistrust, and capitulation.

This of course taking into account that the companies do not fold in the process.

The only real change in the market I can see is Videoblocks which uses the Amazon Prime-like business model to reward the company and contributors with a sustainable model. Hopefully, it is future-proof.  ;)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Is iStock worth it for video?
« on: September 06, 2017, 16:17 »
Unless they completely change the commission structure it makes no sense to upload new content to iStock. I have about 2000 files that are not in their collection since they slashed commissions.  Maybe they will get bought out by a bigger company some day that gets the Getty debt under control and commissions to a competitive level. Not holding my breath!    ::)
