Off Topic / funny place I found one of my pics...
« on: May 15, 2014, 23:37 »
A slightly shameless plug for my blog, but it's stock related:

http://www.trash.co.nz/blog/2014/149/should-this-be-forgotten.html

Although academic pushing my blog here as it's not photography related on the whole.

And no, I didn't find one of my photos on my own blog! :-)  I found one and blogged about it.

Cheers, Chris H.

Off Topic / Well, Hello....
« on: March 29, 2014, 04:31 »
Long time, no type.

I've been inactive on here, and stock in general since 2011, just sorting out stuff to start uploading again.

Just thought I'd say hello.  :D

Cheers, Chris H.

iStockPhoto.com / Disambiguating old images?
« on: May 02, 2010, 15:10 »
Hurro,

Is it worth the effort?

I've (finally) got with the reset of the world and started using deepmeta, and I noticed that it's a lot quicker to DA old images using it than the web site (no surprise really)

So, my question for the day, is it worth going through and DA'ing older images?

Cheers, Chris H.

iStockPhoto.com / Payouts slower than a wet week?
« on: November 17, 2008, 06:02 »
Anyone else in the hold loop at IS?

Payout requested 7th November, normally they payout quite quickly, 11 days is a bit of a record for me...

Amusingly enough, the status screen still says "3-5 business days" "Pending"  :-)

General Stock Discussion / Referral links on own websites...
« on: June 08, 2008, 06:55 »
Hi-ho,

A general question or two for the crowd...

Is it worth having referral links on your own websites?

Does anyone have a dedicated website for referral links and microstock info?

Has anyone got rich overnight from referrals?  ;D

I'm looking at re-developing my website (http://cpix.co.nz) as it's a bit tired, and I need more of a portfolio focus on there, and was mulling over a couple of ideas...

Cheers, Me.

General Stock Discussion / www.allto1.com ?
« on: June 08, 2008, 06:44 »
Hi-ho,

Just got an invite for this site, based in Estonia, for a new RM site..

Anyone a member?  Got any comments?  Having a good evening?

Cheers, Me.

StockXpert.com / StockXpert review times...
« on: May 18, 2008, 16:01 »
Hurro,

Not complaining, just curious as I've been out of it for six months...

What are the average review times on StockXpert that folks are seeing these days?

Cheers, Me.

Adobe Stock / Order of keywords?
« on: August 07, 2007, 06:22 »
Anyone else played around with the order of keywords since V2?

I've just discovered that for at least one of my images searching on keywords at the 'bottom' of the list does not find the image at all, but searching for ones at the top does..

I'm not worried if the images are way down the list, but the two I looked at don't show up at all..

Is this how it has always been?

Adobe Stock / Stats?
« on: July 29, 2007, 07:56 »
Have I missed where on the FT site the monthly/daily stats page is, or is there simply not one?

I've just doing up a spreadsheet to do some stats comparing the sites I'm on and have got data for all of them apart from fotolia...

Shutterstock.com / 'Similar Images' on SS.
« on: July 21, 2007, 07:48 »
Any idea how they appear or are set?

Just curious, as I've been playing around with putting a link to a lightbox on IS for some of my images to see if it improves sales there, and noticed some SS images have 'Similar Images' and some don't...

Is it purely systemic, or can we effect it?

StockXpert.com / Paypal payments from StockXpert?
« on: June 17, 2007, 05:41 »
Anyone got any experiences with slow payouts from StockXpert?

Did a request back on the 11th, and just realised it's not come through.  It shows as pending on the site, but my balance has not gone down..

Just curious, we're not talking high finance here...  ;D

Shutterstock.com / Can't post to SS forums?
« on: May 04, 2007, 06:41 »
Is it just me?

I'd not worried about it for a while, but thought I'd look into this...

If I try to reply, or post a new thread on SS I get a message saying to log out, then back in.. I do that, and it just gives me the same message...

I thought it might be my browser (Firefox 1.0.4 / Linux) so I just tried IE7 on XP, and Firefox 2 on XP and got the same result...

Anyone else having that problem?

Software - General / IPTC / keyword / category editor...
« on: April 27, 2007, 17:32 »
Hurro,

I've been using exifer for doing keywords etc, and was wondering if anyone knows of a different/better standalone tool?

The thing that annoys me about exifer is that I can't just copy'n'paste in the keywords in a comma-delimited list, or something similar, you have to add them individually...

Cheers, Me.

General Stock Discussion / My first flower....
« on: March 29, 2007, 04:26 »
I know it's a reviewers worst nightmare, the flower shot, and I've resisted the temptation to upload any for the last couple of years since I started doing microstock, but I finally broke down and uploaded a macro flower shot.  ;D

Got approved on stockxpert so far, so it can't be that bad, given they have my highest rejection ratio by a long shot...

Shutterstock.com / SS Approvals
« on: March 05, 2007, 04:55 »
Hi-ho,

Since the problems last week with SS, is anyone seeing any approvals go through?

I had 8 in the queue before it happened, and one got approved just before, the other 7 have been sitting in the waiting approval since... Seems like a long wait for SS...

Cheers, Me.

Shutterstock.com / ROFL... Funny rejection on SS..
« on: November 02, 2006, 05:04 »
Just had to share this, after all the threads on rejections..

I submitted four photos to SS a couple of days ago.  Two of which were rejected....

I keep a spreadsheet of all my image names, and where they are uploaded to, with captions, keywords etc.  I just went to update it, and went to the image status page on SS.

The two rejected images  are sitting one above the other on the screen:

The first one has the reason: "Not Approved: Over use of noise reduction software"

The other has: "Not Approved: Noise, film grain, artifacts, or pixilation at 100%. Try noise reduction software"

 ;D  I'm sooo confused...

Shutterstock.com / Uploads dissapearing in the mist?
« on: October 19, 2006, 03:59 »
Did some FTP uploads on SS last night, (localtime) and keyworded them etc..  after just under 24hrs they've not appeared in the 'pending photos' even though I got the email to say I'd uploaded them...

Weird.

Anyone else seeing that sorta thing currently?

Hi-ho,

Just wondering what type of info you put on your general website if you have one, about microstof photography, and which sites do you link to from the page?

I'm doing some work on my own website (http://cpix.co.nz) adding a blog, and some other misc bits, and thought I should put something on there, but I can't think of exactly how I'd word it...

Looking for inspiration. :-).

Cheers, Me.

Adobe Stock / Fotolia- polite rejection...
« on: May 22, 2006, 14:21 »
I know a few poeple post here and on other forums about odd/impolite rejections, so I thought I'd post a bit of one of the Fotolia ones I just got...

This is the first two paragraphs from the rejection of a fairly weak image I have only had accepted by one site (SS) and hasn't sold once so I wasn't expecting it to be accepted.  I really like the wording:

"We regret to inform you that photo donations please was unfortunately not accepted.

The photographs in the Fotolia database are intended for sale as illustration of brochures, magazines, websites, and presentations. Your photographic work is excellent but does not meet the needs of the Fotolia customer base.
"

So it's official.  My photographic work is excellent. I can now rest easy, put up my feet and just bask in the glow of my own excelence. :-).

Have a nice day...

iStockPhoto.com / Here's a first for me.. Executive Queue?
« on: May 22, 2006, 14:10 »
Just got an email from istock to say that one of my images has been put into the executive queue for review..  (For review of copyright etc)

Not sure if I should be flattered or not. :-)

FYI, this is the image:
