Today US unleashed its "toughest ever" sanctions against Iran.
What will happen now to Iranian contributors?

They will have to other means to access the money. I know it must be tough cos surely entities like PayPal wont deal with Iranians.

As shutterstock are a US company will they even be able to be on their site though? I believe also the US are flexing their muscles to stop other countries trading with them.

Only two years to go before the next US presidential elections. And hopefully a preview tomorrow with midterm election.
Hope for our Iranian (and other "bad" countries') friends that things will improve after that.
In the meantime the sensible thing to do for stock sites would be at most to freeze accounts, not delete. Resist. Soon America will be normal again.

Lets see?
Iranian authorities have issued indictments against eight detained environmental activists that could lead to the death penalty.
Women are arrested and imprisoned for refusing to abide by the state dress code.
Iran is known the central banker of international terrorism.
In 1988 the Iranian regime carried out an atrocious massacre sending tens of thousands of political prisoners to the gallows.
Genocide of 35,000 Kurds
People of the Baha'i faith, houses and shops are being burned or bulldozed down, they are being kidnapped and beaten. Baha'i cemeteries are being plowed up.
Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, openly calls for Israel's and America's destruction.

You support all that?

And you are complaining about a trade embargo, hurting Microstock? I don't even think photos are on the list with oil, military, aerospace, shipping vessels and other items.

Both Clinton and Obama signed executive orders barring trade with Iran. Just that Obama folded for a little bit of a deal to reduce the nuclear materials production.

Mostly though, it appears the European union is saying, we don't care and we'll keep doing what we want. That's free choice and I'm all for that. Just because the US says something, it doesn't mean the rest of the world needs to bow down.

I don't support any of that. And the EU doesn't either.

I just don't believe that isolating a country with embargo will help solving these problems. Most likely it will just radicalise them even more.
Same analysis, different solutions. Agree with you on free choice.

By the way, I am sure Iranian stock photographers are not among the terrorists and executioners and I hope* that stock photography is not part of the sanctions.

*For them, not for me.  I am happily European (at least until March, 29th at 11pm, but that's another story of self-inflicted isolationism).

Yes, I hope nothing bad happens to our fellow photographers and artists. There are already money transfer problems with some places, which isn't always because of politics, but can be banking laws, or the country someone is in, that doesn't license outside banking. Many more possible problems besides a trade embargo.

I was going to write don't forget to vote, because I embrace real diversity and discussion, things like open minds and sharing ideas. But since you aren't registered here... wait maybe you can get one of those absentee ballots?  ;) Your Trump comments made me think you were here. My mistake.

For everyone who is in the states, vote your opinions and get your friends to do the same. Make it count. I don't care what party or politics you favor, that's the freedom we enjoy and which I support.
