Title: "Detailed Categories" selection problem
Post by: nothingness on February 14, 2009, 05:19
Hi all:

Not sure if anyone has encountered similar problem; while uploading images in the last couple of days, I have been getting the message "A problem occurred while communicating with the server. Please try again later" during the "Detailed Categories" selection process.

Is Istock aware of the problem?

I've had the same, but rightly or wrongly I'm of the opinion that most buyers don't use categories and that keywords are more important.

There are at least three threads in iStocks 'Help' forum on this - they are still looking into it.

Someone posted this as a workaround - can't confirm as haven't tried it:

"you actually can still add the three categories, it's just a little trickier than it was before. after you select your first category, you then try to enter a second one, you get an error message (as everyone now knows). however, in the selection box on the right, you will actually now notice that there is a scroll bar moved all the way to the right. if you move it back to the left, you can then make your selection for the second category. do the same thing for category three and you are in business. i've done this for all 15 pictures i uploaded yesterday and today without any troubles."

Hazing, making it so you choose your 15 files a week carefully, and then they reject for...

"Please make an effort to disambiguate your words. This will help your search results and improve the search experience for your customers.

Always select a meaning for each keyword and only use keywords that are fully relevant. Thank you."

So you lose one of your uploads for the week.

They are testing patience and the will of people to continue to submit photos.  ;D

At least it keeps us on our toes, amused and befuddled.
