Title: 'New' sort option does not sort by upload date?

Anyone knows why iStock's New sort option does not sort by upload date?

I don't know if you've seen this already, or if you're asking for more information, but anyway here's the official thread:

As well as the official reason, for which restricting similars/identicals would be a better solution, it also has the effect of not letting us check whether other people (most aren't, including high ranking diamonds/BDs) have very few sales on newer files, and hides the fact that even some (no idea how many) inspectors/admins have hardly uploaded in the last year or two.

From the official thread: "From a buyer point of view it may be a potentially positive move..."
I just don't understand why this unclear sort order is a potentially positive move for buyer?

Note the wording: 'may be ...potentially positive'. That's not a convinced statement.

A lot of searches had 20, 50 or more files, often near-identical, from the same author because of the unlimited uploads, thus limiting variety in what the buyer was seeing. In addition, if the large swathe of similars had been spammed, as is far too common nowadays, it often happened that the first search page had almost no files relevant to the search term, which again wouldn't please buyers.
Why limiting uploads, rejecting identicals and near-identicals, and inspecting keywords wouldn't be a better solution, I can't possibly imagine. (Other than conspiracy theory: Evil Plot)

It's not consistent anyway. I was looking in one port at random and the top lines of his best match was 'New-ish', but his New sort had very high sellers from way back on the top line (very similar to his Most Popular - all time), followed by 2-3 lines of medium sellers from way back.
Searching my own port, and a couple of others (in case looking at my own file when logged in was a 'special' case) didn't show the same pattern.
