The 5 new lightboxes are now ready to go.  Here they are.

You can submit your files here
http://www.microstockgroup.com/istocklightbox/

Submissions are limited to 5/person/lightbox

I will update the lightbox images once we have a few files to pick from.

Forgive me for asking this question, but I don't know much about the "culture" of iStock

What do these lightboxes do? Do they improve sales in any way or is it just a way to categorize images?

People mostly use them for their own portfolios.

You can put your similar images in a lightbox - then bring a buyers attention to your lightbox by putting a link in a number of your images.

If you check out this image of mine
http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-photo-4726056-female-climber.php

You can see it has a link to a lightbox for my climbing images.  By linking a group of your own images, you will get buyers staying within your own images (hopefully) instead of looking at other peoples.

With the microstockgroup lightboxes, we are sharing our traffic.  So if a buyer looks at our image, they might also look at the microstockgroup lightbox and then also buy another one of our images.

Hmm. i didn't think about that.

I suppose someone building a website or something may be shopping for both stills and video.
I don't see the harm, so sure.

Am I doing something wrong? I keep getting 'The search query you entered did not find any matching results' for the new lightboxes.

I've just put one in the travel destinations when I click on the link I get this:

I see 27 images when I click on that link.  I think the lightbox is just empty for you (for now).  Give istock some time and it will re-populate the box contents.

What a great idea!

One more question though; I noticed that some of my images have been added to several public lightboxes. Why would anyone bother doing this when they are not the author of my image? Does this increase traffic to the creator of the lightbox, I mean, adding images from other users?

I tried but it failed I got this message:

There was a problem adding this image to the Spring lightbox
It looks like you still need to add the appropriate banner to this image.

Here is the text you need to put in the description.

I dont get it we only need the ID number of the Istock image we want to ad to the light box or ...?????

You have to first put the code of the Banner in the Description area of the image you want to submit (this in IS), then come back to MSG to add the image number to that Lightbox.  Thats how I did it . . . .  and it does take a little time for that image to show up in the Lightbox.

I added one image to a lightbox then changed my mind and added it another lightbox. However, it now appears in both lightboxes. Is it going to be updated by itself automatically or is there a way to remove it from the original lightbox?

I added one image to two lightboxes also, . . . . being new here I hope that is OK.

There is more detailed information on how to add the banner code in the old thread here:

http://www.microstockgroup.com/istockphoto-com/microstockgroup-istock-lightboxes/25/

The screen shots are from the old iStock interface but it's basically the same.

I put 2 images in spring lightbox and 2 in macro lightbox. Then I got tired. Does it really help?

The nature lightbox has been viewed over 5000x  That is a potential 5000 customers you may not have been exposed to otherwise.

Leaf,

Maybe we are having a bit of overlapping here?
"Summer, Sun, Sand "
"Summer Sports"
"Summer"

Are you going to make the banners with images, like the old ones?
