Anybody know what this is all about? Is this the big announcement that's supposed to be coming for vectors?

80%!!!! Nope, ain't Istock!  But I can smell a lawsuit in the air over the name.  ;D

Yea the 80% is a dead giveaway that it's not affiliated with IS or Getty.  ;)

Must have been started by young kids. Sell-UR-vectors? Don't they teach spelling anymore? Sure, I know, I sound like an old fogey and it's the hip way to spell nowadays. To me it just looks ignorant. Like they want you to text UR files over to them???  ::)

(Before you all go getting your panties all in a wad...I own a Droid and text all the time. Sure it's convenient when you're typing on a teeny-tiny keyboard...everything helps. But I wouldn't use it in a business setting unless I wanted teens to be doing business with me.) Reminds me...play poker with some other couples every month...one is a teacher. She says her students turn in their term papers using text-speak.  ::)

Is there a way to tell who owns the site?

I hope they don't move us to a different URL, that would be even more tragic than all the changes at iStock this since September.  That being said, I'm afraid to hear what the big announcement for the vector artists will be.

The longer they wait, the bigger it will have to be to avoid major disappointment and more resentment.

Well, I certainly wouldn't trust them to manage my files, if I were ever to contribute. Foolishly using the 'istock' name doesn't give me much confidence that they have much business acumen.

What does surprise me though, is that iStock never thought to buy that domain.

I don't think it's all that valuable to istock. At least it wasn't back in 2005 when the domain was registered. Even today, I don't see much value in it for the company. iStock pretty much markets vectors as "illustrations", not "vectors". Vector is more of the technical name used by contributors. Buyers are looking for illustrations. istockillustration.com would make more sense than istockvector.com.

But companies don't always buy up names to use them...sometimes they buy them up to keep other people, like this person, from using them. But I am certain they didn't have the foresight for that.

I check the whois through GoDaddy and it was registered through DomainsByProxy, so we'll never know

Unless you are one of iStock's lawyers with a good case, which is questionable, they'd be in major trouble if they told you, I suspect.
