I don't like iStock's new interface. Isn't there a way to get away? I don't want to use it. Maybe you know something about it.

what interface?

I was so totally annoyed every time I saw the man with the antenna and  "I love uploading" that  I can still remember it after axing out istock 3 years ago.
I cant imagine they do it on purpose, but little details in their design shows their true arrogance.
Worst thing is that they dont know, they dont see it. They dont care, and their vision is fed from the Calgary garage and the massage chair down at floor 3 in the building while looking at one of theeir own imprisoned heros and NOT their contributors from out in the world.

Not unless you're off the new ADP on rotation while they test it. If you're a buyer, you could tell them why it doesn't work for you,  but I'm not sure that they care any more about buyers' opinions than those of the drones.

Try using DeepMeta?

The 'rotation wave' finally caught up with me and I was surprised to see (on the image detail page) an ellipsis next to the image title which on mouse over displayed 'See full title'. Thinking that the description would appear if I click on the ellipsis, I went ahead and clicked it. But, it is displaying the first few keywords of the image ! I dont understand it as the keywords are already displayed below the image. I just told myself that this is only a test; when we move into all reals, it will all be fine !

They have consistently said that descriptions will not feature on the new ADP.
Despite many requests to explain that policy, they have chosen not to so so.

The keywords thing is weird. It's not just the first keywords you put on the file: it's as they may have reodered the keywords on acceptance.
It's hard to work out a sensible strategy now. For example, I'm keyword-stuffing the title, in place of a description, but the keywords show at the bottom and also at the top, if someone thinks to click the ellipsis to expand the title.
If they were keeping the keywords in the order we uploaded them (I try to keyword in order of importance, though it can get messed up if I forget one), a keyword-stuffed title would just be a triplicate ...  ::)
Anyway, who knows what they'll be desperately trying tomorrow?

I figure iStock will hide descriptions as they choose. The search engines will eventually figure out that the text is hidden and downgrade the site in the searches due to the hidden text. Then iStock will have to come around and always show the text.

I just don't have a prediction on how soon the search engines and iStock will make the circle.

lol  ;D they will not "hide" the text. They will hide the php code that generates the text.

I now see the new ADP for the first time and the page takes about 2 secondes to load. Same goes for the enlarged image (3 seconds). The old page with description took less time to load. It seems iStock knows how to defy the laws of internet speed; displaying less content takes longer to load, instead of the opposite.

Even scrolling up and down stutters instead of flowing smoothly. It makes navigation an actual nightmare. I hope it's just a temporary thing, but I'm afraid not.

I don't understand the 5 keywords at the top either. Completely useless and redundant information.

i find the page loads faster than before. it should since it does not have to load a lot of content like before.

one thing odd now is that Getty needed my legal name for payment tax stuff and now my real name appears under the big red button on the ADP. i guess i am ok with that but kinda odd. on the search results page my user name shows up,  ::)

I'm finding the new ADP pages load much slower  which is often reported on their relevant thread (and what you see while you wait is to me really ugly annoying), but it presumably depends which test version each of us is getting. E.g. 'similars' (such as they are) sometimes show, sometimes don't.

i am not seeing similars so that might explain the quick load

i did notice that the order of keywords on the ADP is NOT the same order i place in deep meta

I noticed if you are logged in you can not see  similars. If you log out you can see them. Probably to increase speed.

That's what I see, but only for some images. Even for images showing the new ADP, I don't see similar images for all of them. For the ones I do see similars for, if I log in, the similars go away.

Think about that - why would a buyer (who would be logged in) not want to see similars? You can always increase speed by removing functionality, but if something is useful, arguably that would be a poor tradeoff.

Oh, Jo Ann, you must know that they polled buyers extensively and they told them:
1. We don't want to see descriptions
2. We don't want to see similars
3. We don't want the page to load faster
4. We do want to see random keywords twice.
5. We like a lot of trapped white space.

(In case anybody wondered, that would be a  ;))

Woo-way, common sense is beginning to appear.
Now there's a 'return to classic view' right at the bottom of the page, way 'below the fold' on my monitor, but I read a post about it over there.
Hopefully it will be moved to a more prominent position soon.
Unless they put it there so that people wouldn't see it, then they could claim no-one was using it. (I wouldn't put it past them.)
Not sure why just a 'show file description' button right under the title wouldn't be better. How would a new potential buyer know it was worthwhile to show the classic view?
Best would be to have the description in full view.

My Rant: While I am exclusive and feel iStock is doing some good things I feel like a test dummy!!! Why do we need a classic view if the new ADP is better? There are more clicks on the new search as you have to click to open the options instead of having them justified to the LT. There is a ton of research on what is a good design online already! I can't see the constant changes to ADP as a positive move as the customer wants stability and the info they need to buy and descriptions is a part of that! Why would a moderator say you can talk about bugs on the new search but we don't want your input! Since when is input a bad thing? If you have all the answers then why do you keep changing things? While a lot of these changes are a good thing it won't drive sales because of design alone! Customers liked having the option on the old system to buy an image for a few bucks, that was taken away from them and subs where the answer. I disagree because subs only profitable on scale and hurt the artist. People I run into use to tell me the reason they used iStock is because SS was to expensive! I was confused at first but then realized they just want to be able to purchase images as need for a few dollars and not have to buy a package. Now iStock, get proper testing of your site like Getty does and roll out the changes instead of using the buyers as test dummies as to what works or not. You have enough data to do this!!

Now I don't see the classic view button either logged in in FF or logged out/cookies deleted in IE or Chrome.
But the site functionality is still almost non-existent in Chrome.

I think the description should be shown by default, and people who know they will only ever want apples on white, and other 'obvious' pics could have the option to 'hide description'.

The 'copy tags' feature is working, (as of this moment - I realise things chang there fast and constantly).

Sue - Is there a way to switch from 'classic' to the 'new' view ? I switched to the 'classic' view; but now I dont see the 'new' view. I tried logging out and back in but have not tried to clear cookies etc.

In the official thread over on iS, they say you have to clear cookies.

Like a buyer is going to love that.
Haven't tried, I only want to see the classic view, except in curiosity/dismay as to what buyers might be seeing.
Seems we're all seeing different things as the developers throw  in all different possibilities.

For some reason, in my apparently up to date version of Chrome, I can't do anything at all there, including search from the front page. As others aren't finding this, I'm going to uninstall/reinstall, though I've a feeling I did  that months ago to work out why I could only get best match as a sort option, and nothing changed.
