Author Topic: Resubmit 26 pics or as a "set" ? (Read 5326 times)

Hi, I just got 4 images rejected - nothing unusual of course.

I had shot 26 images containing the letters of the alphabet in a (hopefully) original way, and I combined them into 4 separate images as sets of 8 or 9 letters.

The rejection sounded like this :
We appreciate your generosity in including multiple images in one file, but this is generally discouraged unless it adds to the composition of the photo. Please submit each item as a separate image.

Now I can do various things :
- send in 26 images, but we all know the reviewers will not approve all 26 - so that leaves me with a portfolio with missing letters!
- go to Shout
- wait 2 months and try again
- give up

Any other ideas? I thought "sets" were allowed in cases like this. Did anyone get "sets" through the reviewers-gate ?

It's a tough call. As far as sets go, I'd prefer to see all the letters of the alphabet in one image, but then each letter would be too small to see on the thumbnail. So resubmitting the letters as 26 separate images is probably the way to go, especially if Istock doesn't want sets. You can submit a note to reviewer with each letter, something like this: "This image is a part of a set, please review all 26". Having an alphabet in the collection with missing letters shouldn't make sense to anyone, hopefully reviewers will understand.

Submitting 26 images could mean more money too, but a few months ago, I submitted the 12 zodiac signs as 12 separate images with a note to the reviewer "part of a set of 12" ... and gues what : 9 approved, 3 rejected (for 3 different reasons).
I finally managed to get them all through, but only with a LOT of effort/resubmissions.

I had the same rejection for a collection of antique jewelry. The images were too small on their own, so I combined them. Their loss of one of my top sellers.

However, my neon light alphabet collages have always been accepted. I will either make one image filled with choices of a single letter, or a collection of 2-3 choices of all the alphabet letters. 5000x5000 or so.

Karimala, were these collages accepted recently?
If so, I could try again, because I like the sets much more than the individual shots.

From what I've heard (someone correct me if I am wrong) on Istock reviewers don't review your entire batch but grab random images from the queue. That would explain why images with identical technical characteristics get accepted and rejected for various reasons - different people reviewing. If you could somehow get a reviewer to look at your entire set it might help. Otherwise it's just nonsense, I agree.

I went through this same nonsense with a set of related objects. Whichever way you submit it, they may reject it. I combined them all into one and it's one of my best sellers.

Submit them individually, and they don't sell, or they're rejected as 'similars'. Submit them in smaller groups, same deal. Combine into one, it might be "too large". Round and round we go.

This is just one of several reasons I gave up on IS. There's just no limit to how much of your time they'll waste with guessing games where you try to figure out what they really want (assuming there's a consistent "they" at the other end of the pipe.)

this is another issue that keeps going.. I had pictures told to join them, other to separate! (DT and IS are the king there)

You were told to JOIN them??? by Istockphoto?
now that's the limit!
May-be I should've started by sending the 26 apart, and hope for a rejection "please join them"

it happened at least once, DT is almost daily, they really think they rule the word but do I do them? yeah..

August 24th was the last acceptance for my latest alphabet. They denied the antique jewelry around the same time.

I don't think they've changed their acceptance policy since August. Rejecting your set would really be rediculous. My letters are photos, and 26 on 1 page is too much, or I 'd have to reduce the size drastically.

All of my letters are photos, too, cut out from photos of neon signs. Buyers don't seem to mind the size. I've earned almost $100 on that one image since August. Another one I did a few years ago, I found it on a children's book cover as a whole image.

It would make sense to send the file to scout first I'd have thought...

2. Wait 2 months for Scout's reply.
3. Then give up.

I liked it better with Anyka's original post "go to shout" - sometimes with rejections you really do want to just shout!!

Hi mate,

If they advise to split them up i would do so and submit all 26 and see how many get through.

I would also include a little note in the description with that advice you got from a previous inspector.
That will make the next inspector see it was already a go from his collegue.
Maybe a few wil be rejected which you can submit with another note linking to the set lightbox again to show what you are trying to do.

Not a bad idea. Not just say "these are part of a set of 26" but also add "advised by reviewer to submit all 26 apart instead of collages".
