Are Categories Important, Microstock in General, Istock in Particular

Istock makes a big hassle about categories and they are very specific.  Some of the other sites are much less fussy about categories and are satisfied with a couple of broad general categories?  Should I really try to list as many relevant categories on istock as possible, or do keywords take care of the search functions.  Thanks.

MiguelAngelo:
Hi

I always try to use as much categories as possible, at least until my mind blows with the time spent and the extra work.
I guess this is not as important as they make it dificult to insert one image, as people in general are used to search by keywords. At least the buyers I know all of them told me they use mostly keywords on the search box and not so many category search.

But people think diferently and what's true and good for a some friends of mine could be wrong to some others.
I guess if they make the process easier, it will be great for us photographers but also for the reviewers.

CJPhoto:
Apparently you can search and sort but them but I dont know how (not that I need to - I am only a photog).

I think with istocks new tags, this will become less important and will eventually die.  If Getty doesn't need it, why does istock. My opinion only.

dbvirago:
I did an informal poll a few months back asking designers if they used keywords or categories. All that replied said keywords. I suppose it if were something specific like Christmas, categories might be easier. Also, that would eliminate most spamming. Keyword searches continue to bring up at least 50% irrelevant images.

Just wish all categories were as easy as SS. IS and Fotolia the worst.

which reminds me, I saw a post by Fotolia on one of these boards a while back talking about a new version that addressed that issue.

i hope catagories aren't too important because i usually rip through them as fast a possible.  It is nice however that we are able to (at least have been able to in the past) copy categories from one image (of the previously uploaded ones) in istock to another.
