People will just find an alternate way to say "+1".  Funny though, if the "+1" was replaced with a hearty "Woo Yay", would they be forced to ban that phrase?

That's funny.

Personally I found the +1 posts irritating and pointless. If you agree with a post, then articulate your agreement and actually add something to the conversation. I honestly think that trying to paint this as some kind of opression is really stretching things.

I'm not a big fan of them either, but banning them seems kind of silly.

Well, as a result of my 3 paragraph rant about a LACK OF COMMUNICATION and the resulting deletion of that and all the +1's that followed, I'm now registered here.  I hope the communication channel over here is much more open and I don't get slammed all the time! ;D

I have to agree with the OP.  Istock, is now the time for a civics lesson?

Given that the site appears to be almost a the point of collapse, this policy seems to me more designed to get people who complain about Istock to stop posting then because of Lobo's stated reasons.

Welcome aboard.  I think you will find that the communication here is extremely open.  :)

Absolutely (+1)!  There is so much wrong with Istock.  For them to waste time on silly semantics like this is a pretty good indication that things are just continuing to melt down.

Rather than worry about who agrees with what in the forums, and what form that agreement takes, they should be putting all possible efforts into fixing what's broken on the site FASTER.  Then there wouldn't be a whole lot to +1 about.

yeah.. you'll find a variety of personalities and opinions here but much more open dialog since this forum is not associated with any particular stock agency.  welcome!

Lobo needs to follow his own advice, just move on.  He doesnt need to respond to or recognize the posts with "+1" in them if they bother him that much.

unfortunately, some of the people complaining about the +1 are those who REALLY just want one-sided freedom to say what they want. so, what those peple are truly asking for is for management to sit back and let people deride the company, belittle and misquote one another while high-fiving those in the 'clique' with +1s.

I think they want to cut the negative chatter.

The point they're missing is that they do that by (a) getting the site functional and (b) treating contributors fairly and reasonable. With respect would be nice too. In the absence of those, they can get silence with a few woo yays sprinkled in.
+1

And it should come as no surprise that the WooYay breakdown is 99% badges/admin (or those who clearly would like to wield a badge of some sort).

Agree or disagree or +1 or -1 -- doesn't matter, by banning the use of that it is just one more nail in the coffin of what once was the great the istock community - the thing that built iStock and the (in my opinion) biggest thing that made iStock stand out among the competition (at least for most contributors).  there was a time when everyone (well, most) wanted to be a part of that great community.  sadly, that's not so much the case anymore as there really isn't much of that spirit left.

Briulliant.
Do it, people!
Oh, that is brilliant.

Frankly, I'm a +1 for getting rid of the forums, period. Here's a novel idea...how about IS hires competent people to build the site correctly, and then actually TEST it before it goes live. That would eliminate about 95% of the threads right off the bat, because most of the threads nowadays are troubleshooting and reporting of bugs by contributors, WHO GOT A DECREASE IN PAY!

The other 5% comprise the kiss-as*er woo-yayers. Some of you think the negativity is annoying? I think all that kissy-kiss cr*p is annoying. So let's just eliminate 4% of those. That leaves 1%. Anybody who feels the need to report or say something, email contributor relations. After all, that's what THEY get paid for.

Amen!

(that's my version of "+1")

Sounds too efficient. And logical. It'll never work.

that's simply not true. rude, incoherent and baiting comments get banned....but in general, the negativity that they still allow in the threads surprises me. especially comapred to what happens to contributors at other agencies who would dare to say things like that, even off site.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Just ask ShadySue. She got banned for being "too negative".

So what part of your post was rude, incoherent or baiting? Or was any of it? Was it merely critical? I ask because certain people seem to think only rude, incoherent and baiting people get banned, which is flat out not true. The people who get banned are the people that self-proclaimed "traffic cop" decides need to be punished at that particular moment in time.

There's a specific name in politics for this sort of distraction activity that's supposed to wick attention away from the real issues.

Yes, that is trivial, and you wont' find at the big microstock sites a forum where so much dissension is allowed as istockphoto's. If I'm wrong, tell me which one, please.

Is there one which has so many problems and issues running concurrently that people are legitimately concerned about?
