Just making sure its not just me. I have had some images uploaded to Istock for a couple days that i want to finish editing categories, keywords, etc. And they say that this is not available now? And that's be a few days now.
Do others get that too?

If you mean "edit" instead of "sumbit", the answer is yes. That function is temporarily disabled, as the man said on the screen. ;)
-
Uploads and I guess edits are deactivated until noon MST...
Edited: MST not PST
-
Now it has been posted that uploads are disabled until 6PM MST.

This was written in the sky ::)

I really don't mean to be rude, but: Don't you read the IS forum to keep informed on what's going on?
++ Uploads Disabled until Thursday 6PM MST ++
As RacePhoto recently said in another thread: Don't Panic!

Did not think of that. I checked the FAQ/Support area but nothing was there. But you are right it is in their forum. But had to look into a coupe of folders to find it. I go to this forum more often so I figured I would try here.

I don't think you are being rude, and I don't know about bobkeenan, but I for one do NOT spend a lot of time in the istock forum and I never thought that sites should use the forums as a place for important announcements. Emails to contributors or a big red notice box on the home page would be way better, imho.
-
Me neither, I'd have no time to anything else if I kept up to date with the 10+ forums on sites I upload to.
I trust that as a contributor to those sites I'd get an email letting me know if anything major was on the cards.
Plus that's what MSG s for ;D

It would not be just way better, it would be the right thing to do! It would probably avoid lot's of complaints from contributors and endless threads in the forum.
But as such attention does not exist yet, the only thing we can do is checking the forum.

MST is Mountain Standard Time

Never heard of that one before Donna !! ;)

That's a time zone in the US and Canada. We got Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones here in the US.

Now that uploads are reenabled, is anybody having any luck uploading with DeepMeta? Mine are all failing with "ERROR: Upload error: empty reply received from iStockphoto".

They post this information on "Uploads" page, which makes perfect sense since that's where you can upload your images.
I sure as he'll wouldn't want to be spammed with email everytime they make a minor change to the site or have brief downtime. It's easier to pop into the forums or announcement pages when I think something might be going on.

Only unsolicited e-mails are spam. Contributors could choose to be in such mailing list or not.
Additional ways to keep contributors informed could reduce the amount of complaints and endless panic threads in the forum.

Well, if people are going to the forum to panic and complain then maybe they should read some of it first. People are going to complain and panic either way and mass-emailing tens of thousands of contributors a few times a week is probably not time- or cost effective, especially since it's well-known that iStock posts their announcements in their forums.

I am not encouraging a mass-emailing a few times a week. I AM encouraging a mass emailing when the site is going to be down for uploads a few days! To me, that's pretty major.
As far as being well-known that istock posts their announcements in their forums...I've been a member since 2005 and I did not know that we were supposed to go over and search the forums for major announcements. I guess I did not get that e-mail. ;)

Maybe it's not so well-known that iStock posts their announcements in their forums. Just as an example, this is how this thread started.
I own an online company (not related to photography) and when there is an important announcement to make, we just send a quick message to all the users who are in our mailing list. Writing the message only takes a minute and sending is free.

Well, since most of the announcements on the site are usually things that need to be constantly updated so we know what the situation is (like downtime, major changes, etc.) I guess that iStock just realized it's easier to keep them in the forums. They do make the big announcements via group emailings (Contact Sheet, etc.) but not on every tiny little thing. It all ends up being discussed in the forums anyways. :)

Now all of istock is down. Isn't this happening a bit too frequently?

If you follow iStock on twitter, you will get the announcements:
As for today, this was on twitter:
NOTE: We've got a few hours of downtime scheduled for today (Saturday) while we continue to do some upgrades.

DeepMeta for me is touch-and-go ... I just uploaded four files an hour ago using DM but every once in a while will get the "empty reply" error. Sometimes "fixing" it is as simple as quitting and re-opening the program.
