Title: Can anyone upload to iStock?
Post by: NitorPhoto on September 05, 2013, 05:25
When I try to upload a file via their site I get an error message stats my browser couldn't connect to upload.istockphoto.com.
When I try DeepMeta my keywords are not imported from IPTC since DeepMeta can't reach the IS keyword database.

Does anyone else facing the same problem?

If I even attempt to upload an image to Istock nowadays I get an error message in my brain that says "What on earth are you doing that for?".

The new reduced prices combined with the lowest royalties in the industry killed off any incentive to upload new content to Istock. New stuff hardly sells at all anyway.

Yes, it's true this is why I don't really uploaded images during the last few years. And uploading there is a pain. But now I saw they have a 999/week action so I thought it is a good time to upload some more of my 20k unuploaded images. But it seems I'll not be able to do so.

I just did a test and it got as far as the photo reaching iStock and needing keyworded. It wasn't a 'real' upload, so I didn't go any further. Were you getting that far?
Getting from the forum page that I happened to be on to the upload page took ages, and from the upload page to browsing my HD took ages, but the actual upload took 'normal' time, all of these being 'impressions' and not accurately timed.

because now its a lot better right? ;D

are you in a quest to have the biggest portfolio at iStock? (pretty much that is all you will get)

if you take 1 min per file you will need 20k minutes or 333 hours or 14 days, good luck with that!

The last person we know of (other than the factories) who took advantage of this was going to 'upload all the photos on his HD' and wanted to exceed the 999 weekly limit. He uploaded an unedited batch of pics, barely described them, keyworded them extremely badly, so they'd never get found for what they are but clog up other searches for which they are irrelevant - except that new files are dropping rapidly in the best match, but they still clog up the 'newest' search (a search which reveals the total lack of keywording standards nowadays), somehow got 803 of his 999 accepted, got 3 sales, at least one of which was used to show how low iS's standards are nowadays, and hasn't uploaded any more since 14th June. I guess it was burnout.  ::)
A salutory tale.

Thanks fo the test ShadySue!

I get stuck at the file uploading. What is even more strange is the fact that I can not add photos to my DM library since it is not importing the keywords from IPTC but dropping an error message about the IS connection or something like that.

Anyway, I'll give it a try every day and if it doesn't work who cares - I agree the new files are not selling at all on IS.

Can't help with DM as I don't use it for uploading, but the direct method seems to be working here, albeit slowly, like most of the site (contributor-side at least).

I was uploading from DM and web in the past few hours. Both worked fine for me.

Now it works. Both: site upload and DM as well.
