Title: Check your keywords in iStock ... you may be surprised.
Post by: Bateleur on September 20, 2006, 02:28
I have just discovered, to my horror, that four of my images on iStock - two of a small 'fender bender' on a highway, one of a model  (who is a close friend) drinking a cup of tea in the garden, and one of a friend's house - have all suddenly had the keyword 'anus' attached to them.

I know why. It's because I had the word 'after' in the descriptor field.

What ineffably brilliant iStock programmer equated the word 'after' with 'anus'. (A fixation maybe?) And hadn't he/she the wit to foresee the result?

I have tried to remove this word myself, but nothing seems to happen. I've contacted support with a complaint, and got the standard bland reply. So what now? I know that iStock is totally covered with their contract and model releases. And I'm left embarrassed.

I've posted a warning in their forum - though I fully expect it to be locked or even deleted.

But I'll post it here too, where there's no censorship. I suggest you check your keywords too.

You should be able to remove it or have the still locked editing.  If it is a tag, just uncheck the box (at the bottom of the edit page).  I assume they haven't added a keyword (as opposed to a tag) which apparently have been reactivated.

Does Imagemanager work with the "new and improved" search engine?

I just tried to upload 5 and I got the error message can't contain repeated keywords in title which they didn't.

"hotel sign" doesn't even have any repeated letters

Reminds me of a time I uploaded 30 photos and got the error message that i had used the wrong colour palate CKMY instead of RGB (which i hadn't)

If it is a tag, just uncheck the box (at the bottom of the edit page).

Thanks CJ. I've unticked the box by 'after' in the tag list and even clicked on the minus sign to remove the offending tag.

But it makes no difference.

I wait to hear from support.

(They must employ some seriously weird programmers.)

Beteleur - Is the word after in your title?  I think I read that you the title is included in the tags and tags in relation to the title (was it description as well??) cant be removed.

Thanks again CJ.

The word is in the 'Photographers Description' field (I wrote "After a hard day's work ...).

There seems to be nothing I can do to change it. My post on the forum was locked after just two hours. My message to support has received no reply other than the standard "Thank you for your question ..."

This should be a priority issue. But they don't seem to give a tinker's cuss.

Okay folks. they've sorted the problem   :)

But in ranting about it on the iStock forum I not only managed to get my thread locked, but also had it removed entirely. Should I be proud of that?

;)
