Title: Count down to payout?
Post by: red_moon_rise on March 18, 2007, 10:15
What's up with the 7 day count down to pay out. Why is IS waiting so long. Stupid.

BTW since I do not reach the XLarge resolution natively I am resizing all my pics to 14.4 MB to force the buyer to buy the largest size for max resolution - not giving away free pixels. What are you guys/gals think about that strategy - helping or hurting my earnings?

Thanks

Upsizing is strictly prohibited at istock. If you are getting uprezzed pics accepted, you better count your lucky stars. I assume you are masking your camera's EXIF data to keep them from seeing the uprez?

The payout countdown (in my experience) has rarely taken as long as it says it will. Checks/paypal transmissions are done on particular days of the week and the time will depend on where your request falls on this schedule.

I guess they want to give themselves some leeway, in case there are a whole run of people wanting payouts.

Also ... putting on my cynical hat ... that could be 7 days extra interest for them. The interest may not sound like a lot to the individual with his/her 100 bucks. But multiply that by a good few thousands and it gets interesting.

Actually, to give iS credit, I've never found it takes 7 days.

I was just surprized to see an actual count down Days:Hours:min:sec.
BTW I am downsizing my 8MPix to 2750x1980 which ends up beeing just 14.4 MBytes. The lower limit for large is 14.1 MB. I am not uprezzing.

Thanks and I have to agree with  Bateleur on the cynical point of view.

My understanding is that the available image sizes (xsmall, small, medium, etc) have nothing to do with the file size.  A large image is ~ 4.9 MP (and NOT MB).  The file size for a 4.9 MP image will vary depending on what the image contains and the JPG compression level.

Your image is ~ 5.4 MP (2750*1980), so you could downsize it some more if you wanted.

Back to the original topic...

I requested a payout yesterday morning for $600. The countdown said 6 days +.

I just got an email from PayPal saying the money has been deposited to my account.

So, as I stated earlier, there's no need to get so worked up about the countdown since I think it only represents how long it COULD take, not necessarily how long it WILL take.

I did not really worked myself up that much about the countdown. I was just wondering about its silliness. Perhaps for 600 you are getting the expedite treatment  ;)

(first posting in this forum, so: hello! :))

The counter seems to be a "worst case scenario". No matter what it stated by the time of request the last payouts had all been processed within 2-3 days. IMO: no need to worry about it.
